- 4-Sep-11 v Kegworth Imps - League - Home
 |
|
Match F0040 Vs Kegworth Imps Home (L) 04/09/11 First game of the new season, playing in Division 3 of the MDH Leicestershire Youth League. Asfordby started brightly and were in front after just 1 minute when a long throw into the area was flicked over the visiting keeper into the net by one of his own defenders. This settled the amateurs and they began to play the ball around and test the visitors back four, who stood up to the test. kegworth came more into the game as both teams tried to suss each other out. An entertaining first half closed with the Amateurs one up. The second half again was a close fought affair, with both sides having some good spells of possession without find the killer touch. Asfordby were starting to get pegged back and in the 70 minute Kegworth equalized when a slip on the edge of the box allowed the ball to be played across the box for a Kegworth payer to tap in from close range. Asfordby tried in vain to get back into the match with Tyler Smith and Frazer Jones going close, but they were out done right at the end when a long punt up field saw the Kegworth striker out pace the defence to slot home in the 79 minute to win the game for the visitors with a final score of 1-2 Team: A. |
|
Match F0094 Vs Loughborough Dynamo Away (L) 11/09/11 Asfordby travelled to Loughborogh for their next league fixture and after having a good spell from the start found themselves 1-0 down after 17 mins, but they knuckled down and got back into the match with a superb 35 yard shot from Ryan Wright to get his 1st goal of the season. The match levelled out evenly with nothing to choose between the two sides and the half finished 1-1. Loughborough went 2-1 in front on 47 mins, but Asfordby got back into the game from the penalty spot after Tyler Smith was fouled, he took the spot kick himself and Cooley converted for his first of the season on 57 mins. Back came the home side and they went further in front with a great shot that was hit high into the top of the net on 65 mins, a mistake in the Asfordby back line allowed Loughborough to go 4-2 up on 68 mins. Not to be out done, Asfordby hit back and got a deserved 3rd goal when Frazer Jones raced through for his fist of the season, unfortunately they couldn't manage a fourth as the home side ran out 4-3 winners. |
|
Match LCF6 Vs Royce Rangers Home (C) 13/09/11 U16s league cup match at home to Royce Rangers saw Asfordby dumped out at the preliminary stage 5-0 by the visitors. In a fairly equal first half both sides had chances to score, but the game changed when two mistakes in the space of 5 mins allowed the visitors to go 1-0 on 30 mins and 2-0 on 35 mins.
The second half was a non event from Asfordbys point of view as the visitors scored 3 more goals in what can only be described as a poor showing by the home side. Team: A. Wright, F. Lennon, J. Campbell, W. Hartley, D. Kinnersley-Smith, d. Challis, K. Wade, D. Christian, R. Wright, T. Smith, F. Jones, C. Fuller, J. Hazeldine, J. Bancroft

|
Match 0145 Vs Wigston Rangers Away (L) 19/09/11 After a poor display in midweek, Asfordby were looking to bounce back on league duty away at Wgston. Showing good signs from the kick off they went in front on 5 mins when Tyler Smith scored from close range after good work down the right hand side. Asfordby were having the better of the match, going close on more than one occasion but couldn't quite find the net. The home side looked dangerous on the break but Asfordbys back line were in good form. Half time approached and again Asfordby went close again but only had the one goal to show at the break. Wigston equalized on 49 mins when they slipped in behind the back four on a free kick. Asfordby again worked hard to get the win and made chances without converting them but were on top as the game finished 1-1. A much improved performance by everyone. Team: A. Wright, F. Lennon, J. |
|
F0191 Vs Barlestone St Giles Home (L) 25/09/11 After gaining their first points of the season the previous week at Wigston, Asfordby were keen to push on and prove it wasn't a one off. Frazer Jones scored after 5 mins to put the home side one up, Barlestone came back into it but didn't really trouble the back four or the Asfordby keeper. Asfordby went further in front when Tyler Smith scored on 27 mins. It was all Asfordby now and right on half time Tyler Smith made it 3-0 to the Amateurs at the break. The second half started brightly for the Amateurs with more chances being made, but the suffered a set back, when Tyler Smith had to be carried off with a bad foot injury. Asfordby went further in front when Smiths replacement Dan Challis slotted home after good work by Frazer Jones for his first goal for the club on 60 mins. Frazer Jones got his second of the match on 62 mins as Asfordby finished in style to wrap up their first 3 pts with a 5-0 victory. Team: A. Wright, F. Lennon, J. Campbell, W. Hartley, D. - 2-Oct-11 v Westfield Spartans - County Cup R1 - Away
 |
Match 13 County Cup R1 Westfield Spartons Away 02/10/11 Asfordby made the long treck to Hinckley to play Coventry & Nuneaton league side Westfield Spartons in the first round of the county cup. The visitors had the better of the early stages with Ryan Wright, Tyler Smith and Frazer Jones causing problems for the home sides defence, at the other end Asfordbys back four were holding steady with Will Hartley breaking up their attacks and keeper Alex Wright making some great saves to keep the Amateurs in the game. Asfordby were coping with everything their higher leagued opposition could throw at them and creating chances themselves, a lively 1st half finished 0-0. Two quick goals from the home side on 50 and 57 mins in the second half knocked the Amateurs out of their rhythm and were now getting pegged back and relying on the break to try and get back into the game. Two further late goals on 75 and 78 mins killed the game off for the home side to make the final score 4-0, but Asfordby had given it all during the game. Team: A. Wright, F. Lennon, J. Campbell, W. |
F0246 09-Oct-11 v Waltham Eagles - Away - League
In blustery conditions at Waltham both teams contested a good local derby match.
Asfordby had the wind in their favor for the first half and had the Waltham team struggling to break out of their own half, it was constant pressure from the visitors who finally went in front on 35 mins when a corner from the right was forced home by Frazer Jones. Asfordby created more chances but couldn't find the net.
The second half saw the home side take advantage of the conditions as they put pressure on the visitors back four, but they held firm until 52 mins when Waltham equalised, also from a corner. The game looked to be petering out for a draw but with 8 mins to go, a mistake at the back let the Waltham forward through to make it 2-1 to the home side, a result that was harsh on the Asfordby players who had put up a good performance.

F0291 16-Oct-11 v Enderby Foxes - Home - League
Asfordby started brightly against Enderby but were not putting away their chances as Tyler Smith and Dan Challis both went close after good work from Ciaron Fuller. Asfordby were having most of the play but on 31 mins the visitors broke away to go 1-0 against the run of play, this knocked the home side back a little and were happy to be only one goal down at the break.
Within 5 mins of the restart it looked all over for the home side as the visitors went 2-0 up and they were playing the better football, but the Amateurs re grouped and on 50 mins Dan Challis broke away to make it 1-2, this lifted the home side and the same player equalised on 70 mins after good work by Tyler Smith. Asfordby pushed on and should have won the game but again the chances went begging. It was a bit below par, but the players battled well to take a shre of the spoils.

F0346 06-Nov-11 v Enderby Town - Home - League
Asfordby came up against the strongest team they have played thus far, Enderby played some good football, but it wasn't until the second half that they proved the better side. Asfordby matched them for most of the first half and were unfortunate to be a goal down at the break. The second half again the Amateurs were matching the visitors, but were not rally creating anything and the visitors went 2-0 up on 70 mins. This put Asfordby off their stride and a third goal followed on 75 mins to kill the game off, the lads battled on and put in hard work in the last 5 mins to keep the score 0-3 to the visitors.

F0398 13-Nov-11 v Lutterworth Town - Away - League
Asfordby made the long trek to Lutterworth for this game, having played the twice last season in what was two good games, this one followed suit. Asfordby changed their formation around after the previous weeks showing and it paid off from the start with them creating chances and having more of the ball and deservedly went in front on 10 mins when Tyler Smiths long throw reached Frazer Jones who turned and shot into the net to put Asfordby 1-0 up. This lifted them and they started to pass the ball around and were causing problems for the home side who were relying on the breakaway. Asfordby had to reshuffle when illness and injury forced Smith and Ryan Wright from the pitch. Against the run of play on 30 mins the home side drew level when a slip at the back allowed the forward to score to make it 1-1 at the break.
Asfordby started brightly again in the second half but went 2-1 down on 52 mins, they again pushed the home side back but just couldn't find the killer touch, anther injury to Lennon forced another re shuffle but the lads battled on until another slip up at the back cost the 3rd goal on 77 mins which killed off the game. The effort shown by all the lads was tremendous and the didn't deserve to come away with nothing.

 |
|
F0489 27 - Nov - 11 v Kingsway Rangers - Away - League
Asfordby put in a strong performance against league leaders Kingsway on Sunday.
Asfordby kicked off and immediately put the home side under pressure, causing the home defence into panic, the visitors having the best of the opening exchanges. Kingsway started to come into the game and to the astonishment of all around the referee awarded them a penalty on 17 mins for a nudge in the back in the area. Asfordby keeper Alex Wright dived to his right and got his hands to the ball but there was too much power in the shot as it cept inside the post and into the net to give the home side the lead.
Asfordby then equalised when they were awarded a penalty after good work down the right saw Dan Challis fouled in the area, Frazer Jones calmly converted the spot kick into the top of the net on 20 mins, 4 mins later the visitors were in front when Jones raced away from the defence to go one on one with the keeper, as the keeper came out Jones turned away from him and curled a shot around him into the top right hand corner of the net to make it 2-1 to the Amateurs.
Within 4 mins the visitors had equalised with a good move that allowed the forward to come through the middle and slot home and on 35 mins the home side went in front after the Amateurs failed to clear the ball from a corner to make it 3-2 at the break.
The second half was end to end as both teams tried to get on top with some good football being played. Asfordbys keeper Wright made a couple of outstanding saves to keep the visitors in the game whilst at the other end Jones and Tyler Smith were combing well. On 70 mins the home side scored a 4th goal, a bit against the run of play to finish the game off. All credit to the Amateurs, they went down fighting right to the final whistle. This was a vast improvement over the last few games, and they pushed the league leaders all the way.

 |
|
F0530 - 04 - Dec - 11 v Kingsway Rangers - Home - League
Another good performance that didn't reflect in the final scoreline. Asfordby started brightly and were immediately on the front foot causing problems for the visiting league leaders as they struggled to come to terms with Asfordbys neat play. Asfordby went i front when Ryan Wright weaved his way past two defenders and slid the ball under the advancing keeper on 25 mins, this rattled the visitors and they went further behind on 36 mins when a free kick by Frazer Jones eluded everyone as the ball curled into the far corner of the net to make it 2-0. Kingsway got a lucky break on 39 mins when a shot hit the post and rolled into the net off the other post to make it 2-1 at half time, a little against the run of play.
The second half was a follow on from the previous weeks encounter as both teams pushed each other looking for the elusive goal, unfortunately it was Kingsway who scored when a shot from the edge of the box spun off the greasy surface to beat Alex Wright in the Amateurs goal on 65 mins and 4 mins later the visitors took the lead to make it 2-3. This knocked the Amateurs back a little but again they rallied and went close on a couple of occasions, but Kingsway killed the game off with a fourth goal on 77 mins to make the final score 2-4.
Again, another gutsy performance from the lads who gave their all in another cracking game of football.

F0740 - 29 - Jan - 12 v Enderby Foxes - Away - League
Asfordby travelled to Narborough to face Enderby Foxes. The first half saw Asfordby starting the brighter of the two sides and should have gone ahead in the first few minutes but failed to find the net, Two more great chances went begging as the home side started to come into the game and Asforby gave away a succession of corners from which the home side looked dangerous, as the half went on it became more even and the score at half time was 0-0.
It was nearly all Asfordby from the restart as they played some good football on a very heavy pitch, they were causing problems for the home but poor finishing and luck on the home sides defence kept it 0-0. With 10 mins to go, after all the play had been at the other end Enderby broke away and a mistake in the middle of the park led to a corner being given away. From the corner the ball was not cleared and it was poked home by an Enderby player to make it 1-0 to the home side, albeit, against the run of play. Six minutes later the home side struck again to kill the game off with a shot from just inside the penalty area to make the final score 2-0 to the home side.

Oadby Owls 1 Asfordby Amateurs 8
This was a stunning return to form for an Asfordby side operating now with a squad of just eleven players.
A shaky start saw Oadby go ahead and then hit the post before La Barbera was called on to make a fine point blank save. Burgoyne set Asfordby on their way when seizing on a fluffed clearance by the Oadby keeper to level. Thorpe put the visitors ahead from close range moments later after good work from Knatt and Sharpley down the right. Brown's fine pass then sent Burgoyne away to coolly chip in his second and it was Brown who grabbed the fourth, firing home after latching on to Thorpe's through ball.
The rout continued after the break with Asfordby playing some terrific attacking football and showing absolute determination throughout the team. Brown and Knatt had early shots go close and Harrison hit the post but it was Burgoyne who sealed his hat trick with a clinical finish on the left. Thorpe got the sixth with a great turn and shot. As the floodgates widened Burgoyne delivered his speciality curling corner into the roof of the net for his fourth goal. Thorpe got the eighth and his hat trick with a stunning strike.
