Asfordby 2010 vs. Hinckley Utd
Asfordby made a bright start to the match and kept possession in the first five minutes trying to create chances but were stopped by a tight Hinckley defence.
Hinckley had the best of chances in the opening spell but the defence of Meeks, Hurrell, Skinner and Taylor cut out the danger and Reed in goal commanded his area well. Hinckley had a chance to go one up from a corner if it wasn’t for a brilliant clearance from Watson just of the line of the goal. Hinckley did make the break through when a long ball from the goalie was miss judged by the defence and slotted in by the Hinckley forward. Within a minute it was two nil this goal was a very well taken 25 yard shot which gave Reed no chance.
Asfordby tried getting back into the game and Carter had a one on one with the Hinckley goalie and Knightly blazed over from six yards out. After the pressure a corner from Hinckley cause problems in the Asfordby goal and a collision between Reed and Skinner caused the ball to go in off Skinner for three nil at half time.
In the second half more pressure was put on Reed in goal and forced him to make several good saves. Asfordby’s heads didn’t drop and Stokes and Haynes both made the keeper work to keep his clean sheet, although the best chance came from a great pass from Callow to Hurst who shot just wide. Hinckley put the game to rest in the last minute by scoring their fourth.

Asfordby 2010 vs. Ibstock Utd
Under 11’s Division 3
Ibstock kicked off the match and were soon putting the pressure on Asfordby’s defence especially with long throws causing havoc in the Asfordby penalty area. It was one of these balls which was misjudged by Hurrell who handled in the area and Ibstock were awarded a penalty which they converted for one nil, Asfordby tried to attack with Haynes and Hurst both going close form corners. Another long throw and more chaos in the Asfordby six yard box which resulted in Watson hooking a clearance over Reed in goal gifting Ibstock a two nil lead. After Hurst had a shot saved well from the Ibstock goalie Asfordby’s defence collapsed as the third and fourth goals went in. Asfordby had a good chance as Callow hit the bar from a difficult angle only to see Ibstock counter attack and score another to make the half time score five nil.
Asfordbys form didn’t chance and ten minutes after the restart Ibstock had scored another two goals. The only positive from the game for Asfordby was a very good last ten minutes which saw Knighley shoot into the side netting and Carter forcing the keeper to save, Asfordby did grab a late consolation goal when Hurst scored his fourth of the season when he lobbed the Ibstock keeper for a final score of 7-1

Asfordby 2010 vs. Barrow Town
Asfordby’s first home game of the season couldn’t have been against tougher opponents when they welcomed top of the table and undefeated Barrow town to Hoby rd.
Barrow Town started the strongest and tested Reed in goal early on. Asfordby’s attack came from Knight on the left providing for Hurst to use his pace but the Barrow defence were up to the task. Barrow put lots of pressure on the defence but Watson and Skinner stood up strong and dealt the problems. Asfordby’s defence finally leaked a goal which quickly became two. In Midfield Stokes, Callow and Carter tried very hard to produce attacking play but was denied the room by a strong Barrow side which put more pressure on Taylor, Meeks and Haynes and they made it 3-0 just before half time.
The second half was played in the same vain with Barrow constantly attacking and forcing corners but the defence was strong in particular Skinner played the game of his life tackling all barrow players and blocking every shot to keep the score down to 3. Barrow’s fourth goal came late in game when a long range shot was misjudged by Reed in goal.

Coalville Ravens vs. Asfordby Amateurs 2010
Asfordby begun their season away at Coalville and went one nil up within minutes of starting from a though ball from Carter which Hurst scored from with the first attack of the game. Coalville came back strongly and equalised with a cross come shot which lobbed Reed in goal. Coalville didn’t stop the attack and went 2-1 up shortly after with a free kick going straight in. Within minutes it was 4-1 and Asfordby finally put some pressure on with Jarvis and Watson holding strongly in Midfield and Stokes, Knight and Keightly making strong forward runs which resulted in a shot for Carter which was cleared only to Callow for scored a fantastic 25 yard effort over the goalkeeper. Asfordby carried on the pressure but Coalville made a counter attack and scored which made the score 5-2 at half time.
Asfordby carried on the attack in the second half and Hurst scored his second of the match, the defence of Skinner, Hurrell, Haynes and Taylor stayed resolute and defended well for the first 15 minutes of the second half and Reed in goal made good saves, until Coalville were awarded a penalty for handball. The penalty was taken quickly and well saved by Reed. Asfordby then made a counter attack and Stokes scored a fine volley only to be ruled offside. Coalville then began to dominate the game and scored twice from corners. Asfordby pulled one back when Hurst completed his hat-trick, and man of the match performance, by dribbling round the goalie and calmly slotting the ball into the net. Coalville scored again late in the game to make the final score Coalville 8 Asfordby 4

- 7 Sep v Royce (H)
|
Asfordby Owls 1 v Royce Lions 6 The first five minutes of the new season was very cagey with neither team making an impression on the game. The main threat from both teams was from throw ins and set pieces and it was from a throw in that Asfordby’s first chance fell to Callow but he headed just over.
Asfordby continued to press with Tinsley hitting the bar. Royce had their chances with Stokes clearing off the line and Forks making another goal line clearance. Welby and Meeks both contributed with some stand fast defending. The breakthrough came when a ball from Skinner put Callow though to be brought down by the Royce lions goalkeeper. Tinsley converted the penalty with a low hard drive under the goalie.
Royce Lions response was quick with a long goal kick going to the attacker to slot home under Reed in goal to make the half time score 1-1 The second half could have not been more different for Asfordby as the defence fell apart time and time again calling Reed into action too often. Royce used this to their advantage and scored from corners and throws five times in the last ten minutes. Asfordby’s only reply was long range efforts from Tinsley but to no avail. Asfordby : K. - 14 Sep v Quorn (H)
|
Under 10’s County Cup Asfordby Owls 1 Quorn Foxes 4 Asfordby’s first cup match drew up a division 11 side in Quorn foxes. Asfordby began and attacked well from the start with Callow setting up Tinsley to shoot over. Stokes also had a shot which was caught well by the Quorn goalie. The opposition began to get on top but were stopped by Hurrell and Watson’s good defending. Quorn had their first good attempt hit the post , then they begun getting the upper hand having a shot which rebounded off Reed in goal to be put into the net for one nil to Quorn.
Asfordby got back into the game with a good attack from Hurst and Tinsley which set up Watson only to be denied the ball at the last moment. Stokes scored Asfordby’s goal after a great run from defence to the corner flag but it was his cross which sailed into the far corner. Asfordby tried to press harder with shots from Forks and Tinsley going wide. Quorn attacked as well but Meeks’ defending was outstanding . In the second half and a great run from Hursts set up Skinner only to be saved by the goalies feet, the attack continued to press getting a corner. It was a counter attack from the corner which lead to Quorn’s second goal. Asfordby tried to get back into it with Tinsley going one on one with the goalie who stopped him only for the ball to be headed towards goal by Skinner who saw it saved again by the goalie. In the last quarter of the game Asfordby pressed hard to get back into the game with Tinsley, Hurst and Meeks all having shots saved. As Asfordby press Quorn countered and with five against two in Quorn’s favour they made the numbers count and scored twice. K. Reed K. Meeks H. Stokes T. Watson L. Hurrell K. Skinner L. Callow T. - 21 Sep v Melton Foxes (H)
|
Asfordby Owls 0 Vs Melton Foxes Cubs 5 Asfordby started the match well with Skinner having the first shot of the game. In a even first half it was Melton who had the first corner which ended in their shot going over. Stokes made good passing in midfield and one through ball put Tinsley towards goal for his first shot to hit the goalie and the rebound to hit the bar. Melton then began to get on top with throw in’s and corners, they then got their goal from a good shot that Reed couldn’t handle. Forks played well in midfield only to be injured for the rest of the match. The second half was very different Melton gathered momentum from the start and scored seconds into the half. Asfordby’s defence of Meeks and Hurrell played well but could do nothing about a curling free kick for Melton’s third from this Asfordby’s heads dropped and Melton went on to win five nil. K. Reed K. - 5 Oct v Barrow (A)
|
Barrow Town Eagles 0 vs Asfordby Owls 3 Under 10’s Division 12 Asfordby started the game full of vigour and determination, after some poor performances. It was Hurst’s pace that opened up the defence of the Eagles only to be saved by the goalie, the resulting corner was narrowly missed by Forks. Barrow’s attacks couldn’t not get passed Welby and Watson and it was Watson’s clearances that kept the ball in the Barrow half. Asfordby’s first goal came from a long clearance from Reed in goal which Tinsley controlled and finished well just before half time.
The second half continued well for Asfordby with new signing Taylor defending well in midfield and Stokes controlling the defence well. Asfordby’s attack continued with Skinner having a header just over then a long shot saved. Callow run at the defence with great success to give scoring opportunities to Hurst and Tinsley. Asfordby’s second goal came from a clearance from Welby to Callow who run forward pass the defence then passed into Tinsley whose shot took a slight deflection into the goal. Barrow nearly got back into the game but their strikers found Reed in great form making two superb saves. Asfordby wrapped the game up when a long throw was spilt by the goalie and a determined Hurst pounced on the ball to put it in with his knee. K. Reed A.Welby H. Stokes T. Watson K. Skinner L. - 19 Oct v Loughborough (H)
|
Asfordby Owls 2 vs Loughborough Whites 3 Under 10’s Division 12 Asfordby kicked off the match but it was Loughborough’s first attack that made the first goal when a cross caught stand-in keeper Tinsley off guard which deflected off him into the goal. Asfordby came back into the match with a succession of corners and attacking throw in’s. Loughbough counter attacked but were stopped by some great tackles from Hurrell as well as some good defensive work from Watson and Welby.
Loughborough’s forward play created a chance in the form of a penalty when the ball bounced up and hit Hurrell’s arm. The penalty was then put wide. Asfordby continued to press for an equaliser which came from a throw in by Hurst which was flicked into the net from a defender for an own goal. Asfordby’s main line of attack was from some very long goal kicks from Tinsley which created on opening for Hurst who touched the ball over the bar. Asfordby’s second goal came from a well work training set piece where Hurst crossed from a corner and Callow attacked the ball in the box and scored a great header. In a match which went end to end very quickly Asfordby was on top for most of the first half. In the second half Loughborough came out and attacked straight away but Skinner and Talyor in midfield made life very difficult for them, when they did break though Meeks, Watson and Hurrell cleared the defence. Loughborough did break though after a great solo effort when their midfielder dribbled most of the defence to put the ball in the net. Asfordby went for the win with Forks Callow and Hurst all coming close.
Loughbough countered and scored the third goal after some good midfield work. Asfordby went all out attack to get an deserved equaliser with Callow being stopped at the last second by a great last minute challenge and Hurst hitting the bar from a impressive and audacious over head kick.
