Mowbray Rangers 1 Asfordby Amateurs 4
A fine all round team display by Asfordby which saw some lovely flowing football, with notable displays by Sharpley and Purkis. After an even start Sharpley's deft header set up Thorpe to drive the ball home. Mowbray equalised moments later following an interception.
After the break the visitors dominated with shots from Thorpe,Knatt, Burgoyne and Brown repelled by the impressive Davies, but it was Sharpley's incisive pass which again found Thorpe to put Asfordby ahead once more. The lead doubled moments later when Thorpe's fine cross was deflected in by a defender. Purkis made the game safe when he got the goal that his intelligent play deserved with a precise 20 yard lob.

Asfordby Amateurs 1 Woodgate 80 2
Asfordby put up a great fight against runaway leaders Woodgate and were unlucky not to snatch a point. In an even first half chances were few. Thompson had a shot well saved after a good move down the left and Brown, Harrison and Knatt battled well in midfield to cut out Woodgate's potent attack. Woodgate took the lead when a long range free kick sneaked in at the far post.
After the break Asfordby started to dominate and Thorpe's fine pass sent Joslin in on goal causing the keeper to parry the ball which was seized on by Knatt to level the match. Woodgate went ahead again when a free kick fell to an unmarked forward who was able to shoot home to give them the win.

 |
 |
|
Epworth Forest 0 Asfordby Amateurs 1
This was a vital win for Asfordby against close promotion rivals Epworth. After a couple of early scares Asfordby began to assert themselves and took a deserved lead with a tremendous 25 yard volley from Burgoyne. Wright made a crucial goal line clearance moments later to preserve Asfordby's lead going into the break. Asfordby created a host of chances in the second half but found the Epworth keeper in fine form. Thorpe had a shot tipped over the bar and both Burgoyne and Hart went close. Epworth remained dangerous but Asfordby's back line were resolute with Sharpley in particular outstanding.

- 28 Feb 2010 v Quorn Juniors - League Cup - Away
 |
 |
|
Quorn 2 Asfordby Amateurs 1
Asfordby put up a tremendous fight against their first division opponents and with a bit of luck could have taken the tie. The home side dominated the early exchanges but the visitors soon got into their stride with Brown getting the first shot on goal. Burgoyne put Asfordby ahead with a brilliant 20 yard lob, reacting instinctively from the keeper's poor clearance, and they held on until just before the break when Quorn levelled from a free kick.
This was no match for the faint hearted as Quorn's frustration showed in a series of cynical fouls, but Asfordby's players retained their composure with all of the team remaining totally committed. Harrison led his team by example with consistent intelligent and creative play. Hall was called on to make some important saves but Quorn took the lead when a loose ball was prodded home.
Despite Asfordby dominating the last 15 minutes they could not seize the vital equaliser although Fetzko went agonisingly close when shooting just wide in the closing moments.
Asfordby:A Hall,S Wright,A Thorne,R Purkis,E Birch,W Knatt,E Harrison,J Burgoyne,D Sharpley,A Brown,S Thorpe,E Thompson,B Fetzko,P Thornton.

|
- 7 Feb 2010 v Anstey - Home - League
 |
 |
|
Asfordby Amateurs 2 Anstey 7
A very disappointing performance by Amateurs against opponents several places below them in the division. Early dominance by the home side failed to produce a goal and Anstey struck in their first attack. Amateurs missed a chance to level from a penalty but moments later Thorpe seized on Browns chipped pass to lob the keeper for the equaliser. Brown's strong run beyond the defence deserved a goal but the ball drifted wide. Hall made a brave point blank save but then in a mad ten minute spell Anstey struck three times without reply to go in to the break 4-1 ahead.
It was more of the same in the second half. Despite tireless running from Knatt and Burgoyne Anstey proved the stronger and more committed team and increased their lead to 7-1 before Thorpe's long range shot was finished by Brown who headed home the keeper's parry.
Amateurs:A Hall,R Purkis,A Thorne,E Birch,E Harrison,W Knatt,D Sharpley,A Brown,J Burgoyne,E Thompson,S Thorpe,D Hart,M Joslin,J Wright

|
- 22 Nov 09 v Glen Villa - Away - League
 |
 |
|
Glen Villa 2 Asfordby Amateurs 3
A terrific team performance by Asfordby against quality opponents. A fine start saw Thompson lose his defender and cross for Thorpe to drive the ball into the corner of the net. Moments later the home side levelled and it then required some formidable defending by Asfordby, with Wright and Rumney in particular outstanding, to preserve the lead.
After the break the visitors were stunned by an early strike from long range but rallied tremendously; Knatt's precision pass found Joslin who ran on strongly to coolly level the scores. Asfordby's fine football was then deservedly rewarded when debutant Hart's persistence paid off when steering the ball home from close range. In a nailbiting finish for the fans, Asfordby's lads continued to play good football and ran out worthy winners.
Asfordby:A Hall,S Wright,K Rumney,A Thorne,J Burgoyne,W Knatt,E Harrison,E Thompson,B Fetzko,S Thorpe,M Joslin,D Hart

- 08 Nov 09 v Anstey Swifts - Away - League
 |
 |
|
Anstey 1 Asfordby Amateurs 1 Tabletopping Asfordby remain unbeaten but were given a severe test by Anstey. The visitors' usual creative flowing football was intermittent but they battled hard to secure the point. Anstey struck the bar and shortly afterwards Hall made one of many vital saves. Thompson steered a shot just wide and then Thorpe went close from Burgoyne's corner. Asfordby began to dominate and Brown had a goal disallowed just before the deadlock was broken; Knatt won the ball and fed Thorpe whose pass was coolly finished by Thompson.
After the break Anstey's physical strength began to tell and a speculative lob brought them level. Asfordby's attacks lacked that slice of luck that would have brought the winner but at the other end Hall's outstanding return to form from injury was vital. Man of the Match: Adam Hall Asfordby :A Hall,S Wright,A Thorne,E Birch,K Rumney,E Harrison,A Brown,W Knatt,E Thompson,J Burgoyne,S Thorpe,R Purkis,D Sharpley,P Thornton

- 9 Sep v Glen Villa - Home - League
|
Amateurs 7 v 3 Glen Villa
Asfordby started slow and found themselves 2 nil down in the first 15 mins. It took this to kick start them and once they started to play their usual passing game the goals came. Midfielders got control of the game and the team began to pressure the ball, and Asfordby went on to score 5 goals from Sam Thorpe, a great individual effort and Edward Thompson with two. Asfordby conceded late on but didn’t taint what was probably Asfordby best ever team performance and the result adds to their great start to the season.

Rothley 0 V 7 Asfordby
Asfordby started very strongly with good passing moves creating problems for Rothley and after 10 minutes Asfordby got their first goal when Brown skipped past 3 defenders and smashed the ball home. Further goals followed from Thorpe and Bullimore as Asfordby continued to dominate, especially in midfield and the superb individual performance of man of the match Harrison. The 4th goal came from Brown before half time with a strong shot from the edge of the box.
The 2nd half started with Rothley improving but the chances they created were snuffed out by good defending and goalkeeping. Asfordby then stepped up a gear and scored a further 3 goals by Thorpe and Brown for them both to complete their hat tricks. It was a fine all round performance from 13 players in a well deserved win – well done lads!

Asfordby Amateurs 10 V 2 Countersthorpe
Asfordby continued their unbeaten league run with another outstanding performance. Bullimore opened the score with the first of his four. Within 2 minutes he had scored again. Thorpe grabbed 2 and Sharpley also scored in the first half. Within a minuet of the 2nd half Sharpley got his 2nd, with Purkis quickly making it 7. Countersthorpe fought back and grab a goal from long range but Bullimore responded by scoring 2 more. Countersthorpe earned themselves a penalty from a sound tackle, but Rumney took the score to double figures making the final score 10-2.

- 5 Oct v Nivana (A)
|
Asfordby Amateurs 6 V 1 Leicester Nirvana
After a small delay due to water being removed from the goal mouths the game kicked off with Asfordby kicking down the slope. They took advantage of this with early goals, firstly from Thorpe from a tight angle and secondly with a strong shot from Sharpley. Joint man of the match Brown dominated midfield and the defence gave Nirvana few chances. Thorpe and Bullimore added two more before half time.
Nirvana improved greatly in the second half but joint man of the match Birch and his defence stayed strong. It was only once the score had been made 6-0 with strikes from Bullimore and Purkis that the defence was finally beaten to give Nirvana a consolation goal.

Asfordby Amateurs 6 V 2 Melton Foxes
After the previous meeting between these two local rivals ended 0-1 to Asfordby, another close game was expected and until late into the second half that was the case. Early strikes from Bullimore and Thorpe were cancelled out with goals from McDonald and Newton. However with a solid defence and a good finish from Sharpley and 2 more from Thorpe followed by a late pen from captain Harrison sealed the win for Amateurs. The score line slightly flattered the home side in another very good game between the two sides, but the victory keeps Asfordby at the top of the league.

|
ASFORDBY 2 v 0 ROTHLEY
Asfordby started off with a strong wind in their faces and most of Rothleys players hanging back in defence. Asfordby battled hard with great defending of their own and were rewarded with a goal from Thorpe.
The second half was a different story. With the wind behind them Asfordby started to control the game and were much stronger. Within 5 mins Purkis planted a superb ball from the right wing to make it 2-0. The next 25 mins brought shot after shot which all seemed to hit the post or crossbar denying Asfordby a more realistic result.

Asfordby Amateurs 3 v 1 Quorn
Asfordby pressured early and within the first 5 minuets were denied an early lead. Asfordby seemed to go to sleep and found themselves a goal down at half time. The second half brought Asfordby on fighting. Two corner balls from man of the match Bullimore were soon buried into the back of the net. The first was pushed back to Bullimore who blasted it straight back again to score. The second found Thorpe and was 2-1 up with a fine header.
A goalmouth scramble brought Asfordby no joy but Sharpley, Chambers and Fetzko continued to battle hard. Thorpe too rallied on and was rewarded with his second and enabled the winning home team to take all 3 points.

Asfordby Amateurs 5 v 0 Barwell
Another great team performance by Asfordby keeps up their chances of a 2nd place finish and puts pressure on 1st Place Borough. The first half was a very tight affair with both defences doing well. The deadlock was broken however when some fantastic inter play between Thorpe and Sharpley lead to Thorpe slotting the ball past the keeper. A terrific solo effort from Brown made it 2 nil at half time. The second half was dominated by the home side and further strikes from Sharpley, Thorpe and Bullimore sealed a great victory.
MOM: Declan Sharpley

Asfordby Amateurs 2 V Mowbray Rangers 1
Local derby’s come no better than this and in an evenly contested game, Asfordby managed to come from behind to secure a much needed win to keep their dreams of second spot alive.
Mowbray dominated much of the first half and deservedly took an early lead despite a strong defensive performance and an outstanding individual performance from keeper Hall.
Asfordby had the better of the second half and were giving a route back into the game when Sam Bullimore scored another of his spectacular long range strikes to equalise. Towards the end of the game Asfordby forced good saves from Mowbray’s stand in keeper and man of the match Reece Purkis was denied by a great goal line clearance. Asfordby continued to pile on the pressure and with virtually the last kick of the game a goal from Alfie Brown secured Asfordby the win.
Man of the match: Reece Purkis

|
Epworth Forest 1 V 2 Asfordby Amateurs
Asfordby travelled to Epworth knowing that they needed nothing short of a win to keep their runners up dream alive. This was a game in which Asfordby showcased their ability to play great football displaying superb passing and movement from back to front.
Asfordby went behind early on when a floated cross eluded everyone and found the back of the net. Asfordby responded well and when Brown emphatically shot from distance the keeper could only turn it onto the bar, and with great centre forward instinct, Thorpe followed up to head Asfordby level. With man of the match Rumney keeping things safe at the back Asfordby continued to play their passing football in the second half. They took the lead when Thorpe broke away and selflessly laid the Ball to Bullimore on the edge of the area who guided a left foot volley across the keeper and into the far courner.
Man of the Match: Kieran Rumney
Team: Adam Hall, Edward Birch, Shaun Wright, Kieran Rumney, Reece Purkis, Brandon Fetzko, Elliott Harrison, Alfie Brown, Sam Bullimore, Declan Sharpley, Sam Thorpe, Jonathan Wright, Harry Barnes, Sam Chambers

Mowbray Rangers 1 V 1 Asfordby Amateurs
Going into their last game of the season Asfordby new that they needed a draw to secure league runners up. In a very evenly contested and hard fought game defence came out largely on top, with the back line of Hall in goal and Purkis, Rumney, Wright and Birch defending superbly. Asfordby took a first half lead after man of the match Fetzko produced some fine skill to find Brown inside the box who finished fantastically past a fine keeper. However their lead was cancelled out by a well taken Mowbray goal.
The second half was much of the same, Thorpe created some good opportunities for himself but a combination of good keeping and good defending kept him out. Asfordby were a consent threat from dead ball situations with numerous fantastic deliveries from Harrison with the consent aerial threats from Purkis. There were some nervous moments but Asfordby held out for the draw they needed. Runners up boys well done for a fantastic season!!
