At the end of this season, the team said good bye and good luck to Captain Ross Dunlop, keeper Macauley Irish and midfield dynamo Jordan Ring.
Ross Dunlop has been the team’s captain and led the side well since he joined in the 2003-04 season and is moving to Division 1 football next season. During his time with the team Ross won most of the main awards for the majority of years. He also secured County honours for the schools side.
Macauley Irish has been the team’s goalkeeper since joining from Melton Foxes in the 2005-06 season. He has given up Sunday league football to concentrate on Saturday league football which he started playing in this season. Mack also secured County honours for the schools side.
Jordan Ring has been a very skilful midfield player but has left the side as his family has moved home. Jordan was the Manager’s Player in 2005-2006 Season.
The management, players and parents wish all of these talented players good luck in continuing to develop their potentials in Juniors and Youth Football.

Asfordby Amateurs 4 v Gilmorton Juniors 2
Top of the table Asfordby welcomed bottom club Gilmorton Juniors following another break in the fixture list due to weather. Asfordby also welcomed new signing Ben Hall for his debut in goal. Asfordby haven't had a proper goalkeeper since October 2009 when Macauley Irish left the team for pastures new.
Asfordby applied all the early pressure with Blythe and Bakar having shots and with Carvell defending well at the back. After 12 minutes after good work from Weston and Sharpley down the wing, Lyons unleashed a shot from distance which the Gilmorton keeper acrobatically saved well. Bakar had three further shots which the Gilmorton keeper dealt with. The game settled down to attack and counter-attack with Gilmorton certainly not looking like the bottom side. Sam Alan went off injured to be replaced by Ashley Hill. Midway through the first half, Gilmorton attacked and scored at Asfordby's near post when their striker was allowed to turn and shoot unopposed. Asfordby came back straight awaywith a move involving Weston Lyons and Blythe with the latter's shot going just wide of the goal. Shortly afterwards Steve West came on to replace Lyons in midfield. Further Gilmorton pressure almost paid off for them but fisrt Luke Miles then Jack Carvell blocked on target shots.
West played a superb cross in from just inside the Gilmorton half to Bakar but with only the keeper to beat he fluffed the attempted lob. Arguably Asfordby's best chance fell to Ben Weston who having received the ball, after great work from Blythe to reach the bye-line and cross, spent too long setting up the ball when the easier option was to blast the ball into the empty net. Asfordby re-started the game and attacked from the off but Sam Kee and Blythe both saw their shots go off target. Within minutes Asfordby failed to deal with a ball again in the goal area and Gilmorton capitalised to go into a 2-0 lead. Asfordby kept at the task of trying to score and had a succession of corners to no avail.
Bakar ran on to one ball through fired off a shot which struck the advancing keeper and re-bounded back off Bakar into the net. In the unavoidable collision the Gilmorton keeper sustained an injury which dogged him for the remainder of the game. This galvanised Asfordby's efforts and further attacks were mounted. Liam Cooley came on for Weston on the right wing. Blythe's shot veered off target. During one attack a Gilmorton player handled in the box and Mitchell Noble cooly slotted it home for the equaliser. Luke Miles played in a good cross from the half way line to Bakar in to the box to slot home Asfordby's third and Bakar was again on the scoresheet for his hat-trick when he scored again with five minutes to go. Gilmorton had the last attack of the game and went close just before the end. Fair credit to Gilmorton who gave Asfordby quite a scare early on and surely don't deserve their position in the table. Man of the match was awarded to Jordan Blythe for his tireless running and involvement in some of the goals. Asfordby: Mitchell Noble (Captain), Sam Lyons, Liam Sharpley, Luke Miles, Ben Hall, Ashley Hill, Sam Alan, Liam Cooley, Sam Kee, Jack Carvell, Steven West, Jordan Blythe, Hashim Bakar, Ben Weston

ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 4 v GLENFIELD UTD U15s 2
Asfordby welcomed nearest rivals Glenfield for an important clash at the top of the table. Asfordby had the first chance with Lyons seeing his shot hit the foot of the post after only five minutes. With every inch of the pitch being competed for Asfordby went 1-nil up when Ollie Hatwell scored after good work by Cooley and Squires-Nugent on the left flank. A minute later Glenfield headed just over from a corner kick and central defender Mitchell Noble guided the ball along the goalline. Asfordby got the ball up front and Hashim Bakar played a ball on for strike partner Ollie Hatwell who ought to have put Asfordby further in front. Midfield was a key area for the battle and Sam Lyons and Steve West showed made some strong tackles and received a few as each side strived to get the advantage.
Glenfield equalised with a soft goal past keeper Ben Weston at the near post after several players stopped play following a loud whistle from the ref of the adjoining pitch. A minute later Asfordby went ahead when Hatwell supplied the pass to Hashim Bakar to fire home. Michael Odiam outplayed has opposite number to break up a Glenfield attack and was brought down by a tackle which resulted in a booking for the Glenfield player. Glenfield's front running danger man was man marked by Jack Carvell who stuck at his task very well until he was injured and restricted the player to several long range efforts which didn't result in a goal but which nonetheless kept Asfordby's defence buzy. Hatwell and Bakar showed good touches at the front to keep the Glenfield defence also buzy. After his earlier lapse Weston saved the ball well on three other occasions when Glenfield threatened interspersed with quite a few Asfordby attacks. The first half finished with Asfordby holding onto their slender lead.
Glenfield came out fighting for the second half and after Asfordby had a good chance with a header just over the bar it was Glenfield who equalised with another soft goal, this time, past keeper Liam Cooley who had swapped places with Weston at the break. This boosted Glenfield's confidence and adopting a more physical style of playing Glenfield believed they had a chance in finding the winner. Asfordby didn't lay down and almost went ahead again when Hatwell unselfishly played the ball back to Sam Lyons whose shot at pace hit the cross-bar. Sam Kee came on in midfield and helped to calm the pace of this area of the park down a bit whilst at the same time putting in tackles. A great spell of passing involving Weston, Lyons and Hatwell led to the latter crossing the ball into the six yard box where Bakar scored his second with a volley which was almost an overhead kick but which was hit with some genuine venom.
Odiam was next to be on the receiving end of a heavy tackle for which the ref awarded a free kick just inside the Glenfield half. Sam Kee took the free kick with an awesome strike which went over the keepers outstretched hands and under the bar for Asfordby's 4th goal. Asfordby had further chances in the second half with shots from Squires-Nugent and Bakar. Jordan Blythe, Jack Carvell and Liam Sharpley came on for Hatwell, Squires-Nugent and Odiam in the last period of the game and all were soon involved in the action. Asfordby's man of-the match was awarded to Steve West for a great display of hard work.
Well done to both teams for a really hard fought and entertaining game of junior football.
Asfordby squad : Mitch Noble (Captain), Ben Weston, Liam Cooley, Ashley Hill, Michael Odiam, Jack Carvell, Liam Sharpley, Sam Kee, Steve West, Sam Lyons, Sam Alan, Ollie Hatwell, Jordan Blythe, Hashim Bakar, Aaron Squires-Nugent.

WIGSTON YOUTH U15s 1 V ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 2
Leaders Asfordby visited Wigston for their first game of 2011 and found themselves under pressure from the first minute when keeper Jordan Blythe had to pull off a spectacular one handed save to deny Wigston the lead. It was Wigston again who created the next real chance after 15 minutes when a long pass split the Asfordby defence and was hit into the side netting at the far post.
Sam Alan scuffed his shot with a chance created by Ben Weston from a Squires-Nugent cross before Ollie Hatwell headed a second Weston cross directly at the keeper. Wigston ought to have scored when an attack caught Blythe out of position but with an open goal beckoning Wigston's shot was wide of the target. Asfordby's Steve West put his shot wide. Wigston counter-attacked and opened the scoring when Asfordby failed to clear the danger at the back and the first half finished with Wigston looking likely to add a second. Asfordby started the second half playing with the advantage of the slope of the pitch and the angle of the winter sun and geared up from a half time pep talk from manager Paul Lyons. Asfordby changed keepers at the start of the half with Ollie Hatwell taking over from Jordan Blythe. Steve West had a shot early in the half but the Wigston keeper, who was having a good game, dealt with it easily.
Ben Weston had a shot five minutes later but midway through the second half, Asfordby brought on top scorer Hashim Bakar in the hope that this might break Asfordby's inability to score but it was Wigston who again took the ball up the park before firing over from distance. A minute later a Wigston defender inexplicably handled the ball stopping a shot which the Wigston keeper would definitely have saved anyway and the referree awarded Asfordby the penalty. Sam Kee took the penalty putting his shot low to the keeper's left but once again the Wigston keeper saved well. The keeper denied Aaron Squires-Nugent from equalising before Bakar put the re-bound over the bar. Wigston had another shot over before Wigston's keeper managed to save three times during the same attack and as time was running out Asfordby threw everything at Wigston in an attempt to break them down.
With six minutes to go Sam Lyons hit a shot into the top corner of the net for Asfordby's equaliser and with two minutes to go Aaron Squires-Nugent running down the left wing hit a shot from distance and at pace that was pure quality! Squires-Nugent was awarded the man of the match trophy after the game for his contribution. Asfordby squad : Mitch Noble (Captain), Ben Weston, Ashley Hill, Michael Odiam, Jack Carvell, Luke Miles, Liam Sharpley, Sam Kee, Steve West, Sam Lyons, Sam Alan, Ollie Hatwell, Jordan Blythe, Hashim Bakar, Aaron Squires-Nugent.

IBSTOCK UNITED JUNIORS U15s 4 v ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 0
4th ROUND COUNTY CUP
For the second year running Division 3 Asfordby's campaign to win the County Cup was thwarted by Division 1 Ibstock United Juniors in another close game, much closer than the scoreline suggests. Asfordby started brightly but after applying some early pressure they allowed Ibstock more into the game. Jordan Blythe had a solid game competing well for every ball out on the right wing and was well supported by right back Ashley Hill.
After 26 minutes Luke Miles saved a shot off the line for Asfordby but a couple of minutes later Asfordby's defence failed to clear another ball out of the area and an Ibstock player calmly lobbed the hapless Ben Weston. Liam Cooley had Asfordby's first on target chance after 35 minutes and almost put Hashim Bakar through minutes later before helping himself to another shot which was just over. It's reasonable to say that Ibstock had the better first half but Asfordby made them work hard for every inch of the pitch. Ibstock also managed to keep a very tight marking on top scorer Bakar which deprived Asfordby of some goal chances.
In the second half, Asfordby came at Ibstock straight from the kick off and after five or six passes took the ball from defence to attack in one fluid move with Sam Kee seeing his final effort saved. Against this run of play Ibstock nicked a second goal when Asfordby again failed to clear the ball from their goal mouth. Asfordby started to dominate the game and Jordan Blythe ought to have done better when clear on goal with just the keeper to beat he failed to put the ball away.
Asfordby's Bakar scored two goals both of which were ruled offside. The first of these decisions was highly dubious but the second seemed about right. Had Asfordby been awarded either of these goals the final result may have proved different. In the event, Ibstock in their next attack managed to win a penalty in what looked on the touchline to be a reasonable call as Weston appeared to sythe the attacker down and failed to come away with the ball. Asfordby's defenders were certain though that the Ibstock player dived in the box. Whatever, Ibstock scored easily from the spot kick! This is football and the refs decision is final but this was a clear body blow to Asfordby and whilst they were still reeling Ibstock nicked a further goal when Weson saved but only pushed the ball out to an attacker who promptly scored an easy goal. There was no way back for Asfordby and the result was very flattering for Ibstock.
Man of the match went to Aaron Squires-Nugent for his first half display and workrate.
Asfordby : Mitch Noble (Captain), Ben Weston, Ashley Hill, Michael Odiam, Jack Carvell, Luke Miles, Liam Sharpley, Sam Kee, Sam Lyons, Ollie Hatwell, Jordan Blythe, Hashim Bakar, Liam Cooley, Aaron Squires-Nugent.

- 29 Nov 09 v Loughborough Dynamo - League - Away
Loughborough Dynamo 0 v Asfordby Amateurs 8
Asfordby overwhelmed long time rivals Loughborough on Sunday. The game wasn't as one sided as the scoreline suggests and Loughborough defended well in periods and competed in midfield.
Asfordby's Ollie Hatwell almost got a freak goal after 5 minutes when he charged down a clearance by the Loughborough keeper. Five minutes later top scorer Hashim Bakar neatly rounded the keeper to tap the ball into the empty net and almost netted another a minute later when Jordan Blythe's pass put him through again but the bounce beat him. Bakar returned the favour shortly afterwards but Blythe's shot was off target. Loughborough in their first attack of the game lobbed the ball over Sam Lyons but the shot hit the cross-bar and out. After a period of broken play with both sides striving to get the advantage Asfordby's Sam Kee tried a similar approach by a lob shot over the keeper which was under the bar for Asfordby's second. Lyons went down on a Loughborough shot before Mitchell Noble started the move which ended with Bakar's quality shot for his second and Asfordby's third goal after 32 minutes. Three minutes later he scored his hat-trick taking on a ball from Steve West then wrong footing the keeper. Loughborough counter-attacked straight away but resorted to a long distance shot which was easily caught by Lyons. Loughborough conceded a direct free kick which Sam Kee expertly fired in from distance over the helpless Loughborough keeper and got his own hat-trick a minute later when he collected the ball in front of goal, was strong in the tackle keeping the ball under control and fired over the keeper from the edge of the box. The first half finished 6-0 to Asfordby. In the second half, Loughborough attacked straight away and within a minute had a couple of chances. The first chance was a powerful shot which was off target and cleared by Ashley Hill up field. The second chance brought a spectacular one handed save from Lyons who was falling backwards at the time and had to stretch to reach it. New signing Sam Alan, formerly with Sileby Juniors, came on to make his debut for the Asfordby side and replaced Mitchell Noble who collected a knock to his ankle in the first half. Asfordby played the second half without the same speed as the second half but added a goal from Jordan Blythe after passes from Hill, Kee and Hatwell. On the left hand side, Luke Miles had a number of on target shots from distance which kept the Loughborough keeper on his toes at all times.
Asfordby's 8th goal was scored by Ollie Hatwell who challenged the keeper and when the keeper dropped the ball was on hand to tap into the net from a yard out. The referee saw nothing wrong with the challenge but Loughborough felt aggrieved by the lack of a decision for a foul on the keeper. A minute later the referee awarded a penalty to Loughborough for a fairly innocuous looking tackle. Loughborough missed with the penalty kick. For a good proportion of the second half Asfordby rested striker Bakar but he came back on, as did Noble, in the last period of the game. Asfordby visit Division 1 Ibstock United next Sunday in the 4th round of the County Cup. With a place in the quarter finals at stake, Asfordby will be hoping to maintain this current form which has seen them score 22 goals with 1 against in their last three games. Asfordby : Mitchell Noble (Captain), Sam Lyons, Luke Miles, Liam Sharpley, Michael Odiam, Jack Carvell, Ashley Hill, Sam Kee, Jordan Blythe, Steve West, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Hashim Bakar, Ollie Hatwell, Sam Alan

Lutterworth Athletic 0 v Asfordby Amateurs 5
Asfordby maintained their position at the top of this division with a 5-0 demolition over Lutterworth Athletic and with other results going Asfordby's way, Asfordby opened up a 2 point gap over second placed Houghton Rangers who have played two games more than Asfordby. Central defender Mitchell Noble donned the Goal keeper's jersey for the first half and despite in initial scare which was correctly ruled offside kept a clean sheet in the first half. Asfordby showed early intent with top scorer Hashim Bakar opening the scoring after 4 minutes with a shot from a central position. Good running from Jordan Blythe and interplay with Bakar led to Blythe's shot just going over the bar a couple of minutes later. Lutterworth broke throw Asfordby's defence after ten minutes and managed a good shot which was wide of the target and after another Bakar chance at the other end it was Lutterworth again who almost capitalised on a defensive mix up. Aaron Squires-Nugent put a shot over after twenty minutes before Sam Kee almost turned in a corner at the far post. Asfordby played good passing football and as time wore on Lutterworth became more frustrated and this led to a confrontation from a Lutterworth player who was substituted to calm down for a time. Despite having more of the play Asfordby only created a couple more chances in the first half. Bakar's shot shook as it ricocheted off the cross bar and Steve West was unlucky to see his powerful header go wide. These chances were all created by good team play starting from Asfordby's defensive line in which backs Luke Miles and Ashley Hill commanded their fields of play. Michael Odiam was in uncompromising mood if Lutterworth strayed into the centre backs territory and was ably supported by Sam Lyons. In the second half, Lutterworth had the advantage of the wind but not the slope but Asfordby came straight at them from the off with a Sam Kee shot being fumbled for a corner by the Lutterworth keeper who otherwise had a good game. Lutterworth didn't give up either and perhaps ought to have equalised when they had a couple of corners early on but with Sam Lyons taking over in the Asfordby goal and Noble returning to his usual centre back role Asfordby some how managed to defend their goal. Bakar scored his second before Blythe and Squires-Nugent also had chances. Jack Carvell was introduced off the bench and played as a striker. Carvell pushed the ball around the keeper before blasting a shot into the net for his first goal of the season. Bakar scored his hat-trick from a through ball supplied by strike partner Jordan Blythe. Steve West almost got on the scoresheet when he won the ball in midfield took it on and beat a couple of players and fired one heck of a shot which in the end was off target but flashed across the Lutterworth goal. Aaron Squires-Nugent scored his second goal of the season with some good work down the left flank. Luke Miles and Liam Sharpley switched positions so Miles could take a more forward role and he almost scored when first his natural left footed strike re-bounded and he unleashed a right foot shot into the side netting. Final score 5-0 to Asfordby. Man-of-the match was finally awarded to Steven West for the second week in succession with hat-trick hero Hashim Bakar a very close second. Asfordby: Mitchell Noble (Captain), Sam Lyons, Liam Sharpley, Luke Miles, Michael Odiam, Ashley Hill, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Sam Kee, Jack Carvell, Steven West, Jordan Blythe, Hashim Bakar

GILMORTON JUNIORS U15s 1 v ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 9 Division C Soveriegn Stretched Limousines League Asfordby welcomed back top-scorer Hashim Bakar after returning from his broken wrist and Steve West for their visit to in-form Gilmorton, who last season had beaten Asfordby twice and who had beaten third placed Houghton Rangers the previous week. The visitors fell behind to what must have been one of the fastest goals this season catching Asfordby's defence totally by surprise. Hashim showed early intent with a shot which Gilmorton's keeper saved well followed by a Lyons effort which was over. Inside ten minutes Aaron Squires-Nugent equalised as Asfordby came more and more into the game. As the half went on the Gilmorton keeper was in outstanding form and helped to keep the home side in the game despite Asfordby created numerous chances from Bakar and Steve West going close with a powerful header frpm a Luke Miles corner. Gilmorton had one shot which was on target and keeper Ben Weston wasn't seriously troubled. Asfordby's entire team played attractive passing football and as the game went on it was only a matter of time before Asfordby went ahead. Asfordby had shots from Squires-Nugent, Bakar and Miles all of which were saved well by Gilmorton's keeper before a Steve West cross was fired home by Bakar after 37 minutes. In the second-half, Asfordby started well with a number of shots from Bakar, Blythe and Kee and with Luke Miles overlapping well on the left wing chances were created for Asfordby's front men. It was a Miles cross that led to Asfordby's third goal from Steve West. A volley from Blythe met with an outstanding save and in defence Ollie Hatwell was calm under pressure and Ashley Hill put in a chance stopping tackle in the six yard box to deny Gilmorton any chance of recovery. Asfordby increased their lead when goal keeper Ben Weston slotted a penalty kick past his opposite number. Blythe made it 5-1 when he nicked the ball of Bakar's toes just as he was lining up a shot and within a minute Asfordby went further ahead when Bakar himself scored. Bakar scored another two goals including one supplied by Blythe and returned the favour for Blythe to net his second and Asfordby's ninth. Man-of-the match was awarded to Steve West for his hard work in midfield. This was an awesome display by the team and were in not for some outstanding keeping by Gilmorton might have ended up even higher. Asfordby : Sam Lyons (Captain), Ben Weston, Ashley Hill, Michael Odiam, Jack Carvell, Luke Miles, Sam Kee, Steve West, Sam Lyons, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Ollie Hatwell, Hashim Bakar, Laim Cooley, Jordan Blythe

ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 2 v KIRBY MUXLOE 0 3rd Round County Cup On a very rainy and windy day Asfordby progressed into the final sixteen of the County Cup with a good team performance against Kirby Muxloe. Kirby won the toss and chose to play with the wind and rain in their favour. Whilst attractive football was difficult in the conditions Asfordby played their game of passing football but were unable to find the target. Ollie Hatwell had the best of the early chances and put in a very workmanlike performance up front alongside Jordan Blythe. Kirby tried to use the wind to their advantage but quite often even their goal kicks ended up as goalkicks at the other end. On 20 minutes Liam Sharpley created a chance for Ben Weston but his shot was over and ten minutes later the Kirby keeper was injured going for a 50/50 ball with Hatwell. KIrby's replacement keeper was soon in action and had a very good game. Asfordby almost broke the deadlock when Sam Lyons played a through ball which split the defence for Hatwell only to see his shot re-bound off the post. With Asfordby having progressively more of the play Kirby showed why they are amongst the leading teams in the Division below. As half-time was nearing Mitchell Noble cut down a Kirby player in the box and the referree did not hesitate in awarding the penalty. Liam Cooley made a tremendous diving save to keep the score goalless at half-time. This was one defensive lapse in a half where Asfordby's back four of Noble, Odiam, Hill and Carvell. In the second-half, Asfordby applied early pressure and had a sucession of corners but with the ball swirling around no Asfordby head met the ball. Aaron Squires-Nugent was closest but an Asfordby touch put it just above his leap in the box. It's fair to say that Asfordby made better use of the wind and with the rain receding tried a number of shots. Sam Kee created a chance for Ollie Hatwell but the header was wide. Sam Lyons almost got a flukey goal as a clearance re-bounded off him but straight at the keeper. Ben Weston and Mitchell Noble also tried long distance shots. Kirby had one excellent chance but were denied by a superb last ditch tackle from Ashley Hill who together with Cooley prevented the score. Jordan Blythe made a number of weaving runs out on the right wing and he created a chance for Squires-Nugent but his shot was side footed straight at the keeper. Sam Kee was next to try his luck and had a couple of shots neither of which challenged the keeper much. Blythe hit a good shot which was well saved by Kirby's replacement keeper. As time went on Asfordby kept searching for the opening goal. Sam Kee's shot hit with passion struck the angle of the cross-bar and post before Noble's effort was saved well. In between Kirby had their first real shot of the second half with a rare foray into the Asfordby half. Squires-Nugent was brought off with an injury and Asfordby took the opportunity to put Weston in goal and let Cooley have a run out. Hatwell, Lyons and a fierce shot from Hill were all chances for Asfordby before Jordan Blythe headed in a Lyons corner in a packed goal-mouth inside the last ten minutes. A freak gust of wind literally moved all the spectators a step forward and shortly afterwards similar strong gusts led to a Kirby defensive clearance which was lofted curl round and end up as a corner. Sam Kee hit a superb shot from distance to make the final score 2-0 to Asfordby. All credit to both teams who despite the poor weather made it an exciting game to watch with the final result uncertain until the final ten minutes. Liam Cooley was awarded man-of-the match for a very competent display in goal. Asfordby will hopefully welcome back top scorer Hashim Bakar next week after recovery from his broken arm and Luke Miles who injured his foot during last week. Asfordby: Mitchell Noble (Captain), Jack Carvell, Michael Odiam, Ashley Hill, Liam Cooley, Liam Sharpley, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Connor Hebb, Ben Weston, Sam Lyons, Ollie Hatwell, Sam Kee, Jordan Blythe

 |
 |
|
WIGSTON UNITED 5 v ASFORDBY AMATEURS 0 League Cup First Round Asfordby put in a dreadful performance against an average Wigston side who Asfordby had beaten 6-1 in pre-season friendlies. Playing on a narrow and small pitch Asfordby never really grasped the fact that the opposition's only tactic seemed to be the high ball. Asfordby almost had the dream start when Liam Cooley went close in the first minute but apart from some long distance shots from Jordan Blythe and Ollie Hatwell it was Wigston that increasingly looked the better side. One player stood out for Asfordby and that was Michael Odiam who went on to receive the man-of-the match for a spirited performance. Asfordby did find the net but the header from Liam Sharpley was correctly ruled offside. If Asfordby's players all looked asleep, Wigston, despite creating numerous chances, failed to put them away until a Wigston player was first to react to a rebounded clearance and had a free header past at close range against Asfordby's keeper Ben Weston. For the second half, Asfordby swapped keepers with Liam Cooley taking over between the sticks. Ben Weston had a good run after a rebound and ran to the penalty area before firing into the side netting and there were further chances for Sam Kee and Jordan Blythe. Connor Hebb replaced Luke Miles and got into the action straightaway. Ollie Hatwell conceded a free kick on the edge of the area and received a yellow card for dissent. The free kick was taken well and over Liam Cooley for Wigstons 2nd. Wigston added a third when the Asfordby defence were too static. Poor Asfordby defence was to blame for Wigston's next two goals. Generally a poor team performance. Asfordby : Mitchell Noble (Captain), Luke Miles, Michael Odiam, Ashley Hill, Sam Lyons, Jordan Blythe, Liam Cooley, Liam Sharpley, Ollie Hatwell, Sam Kee, Connor Hebb, Ben Weston

 |
Asfordby Amateurs 2 v Wigston Youth 0
Asfordby completely dominated this league game against visitors Wigston Youth to remain in top spot in the league. Asfordby had about 90% of possession throughout the game but surprisingly the score line doesn't reflect the chances Asfordby created for themselves.
Sam Lyons, Sam Kee and Liam Sharpley all had shots from distance which the Wigston keeper saved before Connor Hebb following up a spilled shot from Lyons tapped in for Asfordby's opener. It was midway through the first half before Wigston were able to break through the midfield and defence to shoot. Keeper Ben Weston was untroubled in saving the shot.
It was Connor Hebb's run and cross which created the opportunity for Lyons to shoot from distance and this just missed the target. Luke Miles tried a couple of long distance shots which kept the Wigston keeper active. On 28 minutes Liam Cooley rose above the defenders to head over the bar from a Lyons corner after some good battling work from OIlie Hatwell. Cooley had a couple of shots in the remaining minutes of the half but to no avail. Sam Kee, playing as striker, kept the Wigston defence on their toes with numerous runs at them. Asfordby's second was created by Liam Cooley who unselfishly passed the ball inside the six yard box to unmarked Sam Kee to shoot from close range. Asfordby changed keepers for the second half with Liam Cooley going in goal and Ben Weston in right midfield. Asfordby piled on the pressure for the first twenty minutes of the second half and Wigston were rarely able to venture into the Asfordby half. Time after time they cleared the ball only for Asfordby to bring it straight back up front.
Asfordby brought on Aaron Squires-Nugent whose first touch was a shot on goal and he had a couple of chances after that. The game went off the ball in the last quarter with Asfordby relaxing and Wigston seemingly content with a low scoring defeat. This relaxation almost proved Asfordby's undoing as Wigston's second chance of the game was a shot on target which Cooley dealt with. Minutes later a powerful shot was caught at the second attempt by Cooley.
These chances gave Wigston more confidence and for the final ten minutes they mounted quite a few attacks. The Asfordby defence of Hill, Noble, Odiam and Miles held firm though. Asfordby's man-of-the match went to Sam Lyons who competed well in midfield. Almost on the final whistle, Asfordby's Luke Miles was booked for kicking the ball away after a free kick and this was Asfordby's first booking of the season. This seemed very harsh considering the lack of a card for a similar offence earlier in the game. Asfordby : Mitchell Noble (Captain), Ben Weston, Liam Cooley, Jack Carvell, Luke Miles, Liam Sharpley, Connor Hebb, Sam Lyons, Steve West, Ollie Hatwell, Sam Kee Subs : Michael Odiam, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Ashley Hill.

ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 3 v HINCKLEY UNITED U15s 3 (Asfordby won 4-3 during extra time) County Cup Asfordby, top of Division 3, entertained Hinckley United, top of Division 2. Hinckley have had an unbeaten start in league and cup fixtures this season. In midweek Asfordby's top scorer Hashim Bakar broke his wrist playing for his school and were also without midfield dynamo Sam Kee. This match had everything you could want in a cup tie. Asfordby had first half chances for Liam Sharpley and Sam Lyons. Hinckley too had chances although the Asfordby defence of Luke Miles, Steve West and Michael Odiam led by captain Mitchell Noble proved steadfast.
Both Luke Miles and Steve West supported the midfield and attack with Luke putting in some excellent crosses. The Asfordby keeper Macauley Irish had to put in a great save after 15 minutes and shortly afterwards Aaron Squires-Nugent saved off the line. The match looked certain to finish the first half with no goals scored but then the referree judged that an Asfordby played pushed a Hinckley played in the box and awarded the penalty against the general run of play. A harsh decision for Asfordby. Macauley Irish dived the right way for the penalty kick but in spite of getting his fingertips too it Hinckley went 1-0 up. In the second half, a moment of slack marking led to an unmarked Hinckley player in front of goal and Hinckley went 2-0 up. Asfordby came straight back at Hinckley and after Sam Lyons was brought down in the Hinckley half he took the free kick himself and beat the keeper from distance. Asfordby equalised from a Luke Miles corner which was fired home at the far post by Liam Sharpley. Game on! Asfordby's determination to beat the higher opposition was epitomised by Asfordby's smallest player Ashley Hill outjumping Hinckley's tallest player for a header. Liam Sharpley and Sam Lyons had further shots before Asfordby went in front after some superb work by Ben Weston to beat his covering defenders and put in a cross to Ollie Hatwell for a simple, but nonetheless well taken header past the Hinckley keeper. Jordan Blythe was disappointed that having beaten three defenders and the keeper he missed the open goal from three yards out. Hinckely were by no means giving up and it was a last ditch tackle on Hinckley's biggest player that saved Asfordby on one occasion. As a result of the fair but hard tackle in the box the Hinckley danger man was injured and this affected the remainder of his game. With only minutes to go until the final whistle Hinckley equalised when Asfordby didn't close down a player at the back post. Hinckley could have stolen the game but Macauley Irish put in two great saves to deny Hinckley the chance of taking the game in normal time. For the extra time, Manager Paul Lyons made a triple substitution in an attempt to bring on fresh legs for tired ones. Macauley Irish again saved well and Asfordby took the lead when man-of-the match Steve West fired in a shot from a pass by Jordan Blythe after a cross from Aaron Squires-Nugent. In the second period of extra time Luke Miles was on hand to clear the ball off the Asfordby goal line. Both Sam Lyons and Steve West had shots which re-bounded off the post. Hinkley's final chance also hit the post towards the end of extra time. A great game. Both teams deserve credit for 100% effort and work-rate but on the balance of play Asfordby deserved to progress to the next round of the County Cup. Asfordby : Mitchell Noble (Captain), Macauley Irish, Steve West, Michael Odiam, Luke Miles, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Sam Lyons, Jordan Blythe, Liam Cooley, Ollie Hatwell, Liam Sharpley, Ben Weston, Jack Carvell, Ashley Hill, Connor Hebb

LUTTERWORTH TOWN U15s 1 v AAJYFC 3
On a narrow bumpy sloping pitch, Asfordby started the game with promise and had a couple of good chances in the first ten minutes. A Luke Miles free kick reached Hashim Bakar in the box but he shot wide and Aaron Squires-Nugent's shot skimmed the cross-bar. The game settled down into attack and counter-attack with Lutterworth having the next chance but the shot missed the target. Sam Kee showed some good touches in midfield supported well by Ollie Hatwell and Sam Lyons. The Lutterworth keeper came off his line well to punch the ball away from a Miles corner kick. Steven West replacing Macauley Irish in the goal pulled off a fantastic yet totally unorthordox save at this post. Sam Kee had a good shot before Hashim Bakar put a header wide. Luke Miles created the next chance for Aaron Squires-Nugent to cross to Ollie Hatwell but his shot was over. Towards half-time the deadlock was broken when another Luke Miles cross was headed in by Hashim Bakar's brave header who needed treatment after getting clattered in the process. The second half was only minutes old when Michael Odiam was injured in a challenge and Liam Sharpley came on to replace him. Minutes later good work by Ben Weston led to Hashim bringing the ball down under control but before he could turn Sam Kee fired a shot in which the keeper dealt with. Hashim Bakar returned the favour shortly after but with the open goal in front of him Ben Weston took the ball wide. Asfordby needed the goal to put themselves in the comfort zone. Jordan Blythe replaced Ben Weston shortly afterwards. At the other end Luke Miles challenge was a bit over zealous and the referree awarded Lutterworth a penalty. Steven West saved the ball kicking it into touch in the process. Ashley Hill supplied the ball in for Hashim Bakar to turn and shoot with but the Lutterworth keeper saved brilliantly. Asfordby conceded a free kick on the edge of the box and Lutterworth made the most of the opportunity by firing in an equaliser. This put the game on a bit of a knife edge for a while but the Hashim Bakar took on three players at the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot for Asfordby to move back into the lead. The referee awarded Asfordby a penalty although it is still not clear of the reason for it. In the event Bakar's penalty kick went wide of target. In the last five minutes Jordan Blythe placed his shot inside the post to make the result certain. Asfordby's man-of-the match was awarded to Steven West who put on the goal keeper's shirt at short notice and put on a credible display between the sticks. Plenty of positives from the game. Asfordby's brand of passing football surfaced from time to time in the game despite the poor condition of the pitch. Credit to Lutterworth who look certain to take some points off sides this season. Asfordby : Mitchell Noble (Captain), Steven West, Luke Miles, Michael Odiam, Ashley Hill, Ollie Hatwell, Sam Lyons, Sam Kee, Ben Weston, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Hashim Bakar, Jordan Blythe, Liam Sharpley

ASFORDBY AMATEURS U15s 1 v THURLASTON MAGPIES U15s 2 Division C Leicester & District Juniors League U15s Asfordby left top scorer Hashim Bakar on the bench for the visit of Thurlaston who was suffering from a slight injury. Both sides created plenty of chances to make this a high scoring game but only a handful were actually on target. Thurlaston went ahead inside the first ten minutes when their centre forward broke through and despite the close attention from Asfordby's centre halves managed to unleash a quality strike into the top corner.
Asfordby almost came straight back but the cross bar denied Sam Keys and five minutes later Jordan Blythe put a shot straight across goal. Michael Odiam's tackles were tenacious throughout the game. Midway through the first half Asfordby had to replace striker Ben Weston with Hashim Bakar when Weston sustained an injury. Asfordby made a second substitution bringing on Ashley Hill at right back instead of Jack Carvell. Despite his injuries Bakar made an instant impression on the game and competed well for the ball up front. Thurlaston almost increased their lead with another fine shot which was slightly off target before firstly Luke Miles, with a free kick, and Hashim Bakar went close. In the second half, Asfordby put in a better team performance and tightened up at the back with man-of-the match Mitchell Noble making his presence felt in the back four. Steven West also put in a good workmanlike performance in the back four covering a lot of ground and tackling well.
Aaron Squires-Nugent created a chance for himself but saw his shot from distance just creep over the corner of the goal. Macauley Irish was called on to make a great save before Asfordby failed to clear the ball and Thurlaston scored another quality goal. Asfordby replied almost immediately through a Hashim Bakar solo goal straight through the middle to keep Asfordby in the game. Minutes later Asfordby broke through in numbers but the Thurlaston linesman flagged for offside by mistake when Bakar had a clear run at goal. Credit to the linesman who immediately apologised to the ref who also had a quiet word in his ear before sportingly Thurlaston gave the ball back to Asfordby. Sam Keys saw his lobbed shot go agonisingly wide and Jordan Blythe saw his shot hit the side netting. Sam Lyons replaced Sam Keys in the midfield and contributed to the game. As Asfordby strived to find the equaliser Squires-Nugent, Blythe and Bakar all saw their shots go wide. At the other end Luke Miles saved a certain goal with a goal line clearance. Unfortunately time ran out for Asfordby and Thurlaston took all three points. Plenty of positives for Asfordby from their second half performance when they played their passing game. First half was less impressive.
Asfordby : Mitchell Noble (Captain), Macualey Irish, Jack Carvell, Steven West, Michael Odiam, Luke Miles, Sam Keys, Aaron Squires-Nugent, Jordan Blythe, Liam Sharpley, Ben Weston Subs : Ashley Hill (For Carvell), Sam Lyons (For Keys), Hasim Bakar (For Weston) Reserves: Liam Cooley, Connor Hebb
