A good game of football,played at a good pace and good spirit saw Asfordby continue their recent form with a 4-2 home win.

Asfordby started well and took the lead on 5 mins when the Lane player put the ball into his own net under pressure from Connor Baker. The game was end to end and Friar Lane equalised on 25 mins, the first half finishing 1-1.  Asfordby regained the league when Baker weaved his way into the box and was up ended by the defender, Baker stepped up and smashed home the resulting penalty after 45 mins.  On 60 mins Nick Harrison raced away and planted an unstoppable shot passed the keepe to make it 3-1 to the Amateurs.  Back came Friar Lane and they pulled a goal back on 65 mins to makeit 3-2, but within three mins Nick Harrison scored his 2nd goal of the game to make the final score, Asfordby 4  Friar Lane & Epworth 2.

11 Apr 2010 v Dunton & Broughton - Home - League

In a game where good football and chances should have seen Asfordby out of site by half time, the home side had to fight for a share of the spoils with two late goals.

The game started slowly for both teams but it was Dunton who took the lead on 5 mins when a cross from the right was met by the Dunton forward with a free header.  This sparked the Amateurs into another gear, they were by far the better team creating and missing a lot of chances and playing some really good football, but found themselves 0-1 down at the break.

The second half got worse for the home side when Dunton went 0-2 up 5 mins into the half, this lifted the visitors but Asfordby kept plugging away, again still making chances but not being able to break down a strong defensive team.

On 55 mins Tyler Smith gave the Amateurs hope when he hit a powerful shot into the net to make 1-2.  Asfordby stepped up the pressure and after bombarding the Dunton goal finally found the equalizer when Dale Christian fired home from close range on 60 mins to make it 2-2.  Asfordby now pushed for the winner but somehow Dunton managed to hold on to make the final score 2-2.

28 Mar 2010 V Markfield Colts - Home - League

A high tempo match played in difficult blustery conditions saw Asfordby record a 4-1 victory over Mark Colts.  Asfordby defended against the wind and were struggling to get out of their own half as Markfield pressed hard to try and break the deadlock,  but good defending and a little luck saw the Amateurs goal stay intact.  After a couple of breakaway chances the Amateurs finally took the lead when Kieran Wade slotted home his first ever goal for the Amateurs after running from just inside the visitors half on 25 mins.

This lifted the home side and on 34 mins Fraser Jones scored to make it 2-0 and on the stroke of half time he made it 3-0, scoring his second of the match.

Asfordby made the most of the wind in the second half but couldn't add to their tally.  Markfield kept pushing and were rewarded on 53 mins when the Amateurs failed to clear the ball and the ball was forced into the net from close range to make it 3-1.  On 65 mins Fraser Jones completed his hat-trick with a fine goal as he curled it around the advancing keeper to give the final score, Asfordby 4 Markfield 1

7 Mar 2010 V Birstall CC - Home - League

Asfordby entertained a much improved Birstall CC in a hard fought match at home.  After missing good early chances the Amateurs struggled to break down Birstall and the match went from end to end with both teams trying to force the breakthrough.  It eventually went to the Amateurs with two goals in two minutes.  The first was scored by Tyler Smith on 33 mins,when he raced away to fire past the advancing keeper.  It got better for the home side when Conner Baker found the net from the edge of the box on 34 mines as it finished 2-0 at half time.
 
Birstall came out strongley in the second half but the Amateurs defended well and went further ahead when Fraser Jones made it 3-0 on 50 mins.  Birstall kept pushing and after a good run by their no. 19 was bought to an abrupt, the ref pointed to the spot, unfortunately he was too keen to take it and the ref ordered a retake as he hadnt blown his whistle.  Dan Poyzer made a terrific save from the spot kick and was at his best when he smothered the rebound on 65 mins.  Birstall got a deserved consolation right at the end to make the final score Asfordby 3   Birstall 1

Asfordby went head to head with one of the favourites to win the league, Enderby Town on Sunday. Playing up hill against the wind the Amateurs were under pressure from the start and the home side went in front on 5 mins when Asfordby failed to clear their lines and as the ball broke loose just outside the box the home they scored with a 20 yard shot.
 
The home side then settled into some good football, Asfordby were relying on the break but only Baker was showing any initiative up front as they struggled to play their usual game.
 
Amateurs got a break on 25 mins when Tyler Smith hit a hard shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net to equalise.  Half time score finished 1-1.
 
The second half was mostly Enderbys, Dan Poyzer in goal was kept busy, but dealt well with everything that was thrown at him. This was a below par display from the Amateurs where they didn't really create a lot but defended well against a well organised side. Final score Enderby Town 1  Asfordby Amateurs  1

A much improved performance was needed after the previous weeks match at Anstey, and it was delivered in the first half as Tyler Smith scored twice in the first 15 mins to put the Amateurs in control. Alex Wright put the home side 3-0 up on 30 mins.  Epworth scored just before the break to make it 3-1as the home side failed to clear a corner.
 
This spurred the visitors on and they put in a stronger performance in the second period and were causing the Amateurs problems but solid defending and a little luck kept the visitors at bay.
 
On 55 mins Frazer Jones scored to make 4-1 to ease the pressure on the home side and Tyler Smith scored direct from a free kick to complete his hat trick on 69 mins to make the final score Asfordby Amateurs 5  Epworth Forest 1

A poor performance against bottom club Anstey Swifts saw the Amateurs seal all 3 points with the last kick of the game. it was an even first half with Frazer Jones putting the visitors in front on 15 mins but within 5 mins the home equalised to make the score line 1-1 at the break.  Asfordby started the second half strongly and went in front again through Jones on 40 mins, but straight from the restart Anstey pulled level again.  This lifted the home side and Asfordby were struggling to get to grips with Anstey who were the hungrier and more determined of the two sides.
 
After constant pressure the home side went 3-2 up on 55 mins when a direct free kick flew into the top corner of the net, it got worse for the Amateurs as they failed to clear their lines after another free kick was parried by the keeper on 57 mins and the loose ball was knocked home.
 
Frazer Jones reduced the deficit against the run of play to complete his hat trick on 60 mins and on 65 scored his fourth to level the game at 4-4.  With time running out and Asfordby chasing a win they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, Frazer Jones hit the free kick around the wall and it looped into the net from a defenders deflection to make the final score Anstey Swifts 4  Asfordby Amateurs 5.

After a long layoff due to the weather Asfordby quickly got into the swing of things with a superb display against Goscote.  All the football and pressure was coming from the visitors as Goscote were pushed into defensive mode from the start.
 
Tyler Smith put Asfordby in front on 5 mins, Connor Baker made it 0-2 on 7 mins. Two more quick goals, one each again for Smith and Baker put Asfordby in the driving seat.  They were playing some really good football and should have had more to show for their efforts, just before half time Connor Baker completed his hat trick to make the half time score 0-5.
 
The second half was as good as the first as Baker scored his fourth goal on 55 mins, Fraser Jones scored a deserved goal on 57 mins to put the Amateurs 0-7 ahead.  A great long range effort from Dale Christian made it 0-8 and just before full time Tyler Smith completed his hat trick to make the final score 0-9.

Asfordby again put in a strong performance away at Waltham Eagles. They started very brightly and went ahead through Fraser Jones on 5 mins with a curling shot into the net. Nick Harrison put the Amos 0-2 to the good with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Asfordby were putting all the pressure on the home side who tried to rely on the breakaway.  Tyler Smith made it 0-3 on 20 mins and more good football paid off when Conner Baker scored a deserved gal for all his hard work on 30 mins to make the score 0-4, and Asfordby went 0-5 to the good when Tyler Smith scored his second of the game just before half time.
 
Waltham started the second half more up beat and held out until 57 mins when Fraser Jones scored his second of the game to put the visitors 0-6.  When the home side did get into the visitors half they found the back four very hard to break down.  Asfordby were still making chances and on 70 mins Fraser Jones completed his hat trick to make the final score Waltham 0 Asfordby 7

The Amateurs put in a fantastic first half performance away at Epworth.  Playing with the wind they attacked from the off and went ahead through Connor Baker on 5 mins.  More chances were being made but it wasn't until the 19 min when Frazer Jones made it 0-2.  The floodgates then opened up as Frazer Jones made it 0-3 on 22 mins and further goals from Dale Christian on 26 mins, Jones completing his hat-trick on 30 mins and Nick Harrison on 33 mins gave the Amateurs a half time lead of 0-6.

The second half was hard work against the wind and Epworth started coming into the game and pulled a goal back on 55 mins.  Asfordby then stepped up their play and Frazer Jones made the final score 1-7 as he scored his fourth goal on 60 mins.

An indifferent performance saw the Amateurs come away with a point from a poor match.  Asfordby started really well and found themselves 2-0 up with goals from Frazer Jones and Nick Harrison.  It should have been more but poor finishing in front of goal let them down.  Dunton pulled a goal back just before the break to make the half time score 1-2. 

The second half started badly for the Amateurs as Dunton equalized straight from the kick off and on 40 mins went 3-2 in front.  nick Harrison made it all square at 3-3 on 42 mins.  The game was now end to end but it was the home side who nudged in front on 55 mins, but a great strike from Frazer Jones pulled it back to 4-4 on 62 mins, both sides had chances but failed to find a winner.  Final score Dunton & Broughto 4 Asfordby Amateurs 4

Asfordby showed real strength to pull this game out of the bag.  Asfordby started strongly and pilled the pressure onto the Goscote team and should have been well in front after making a host of chances, but were thwarted by some inspired goalkeeping from the visitors keeper.  Against the run of play Goscote went 1-0 up on 17 mins and it got worse as the visitors went 2-0 up on 25 mins.  New signing Connor Baker pulled a goal back on 30 mins as the half finished 1-2 to Goscote. 

A tough talking to at half time, Asfordby came out strongly in the second half but still found the visitors keeper hard to beat, they fell further behind on 50 mins and it looked all over, but Asfordby again stepped up a gear and Tyler Smith pulled one back on 55 mins.  He pulled the home side level on 64 mins and then went onto complete his hat-trick on 68 mins to give the Amateurs a deserved win.  Final score Asfordby 4 Goscote 3.

Back to league business, and what a difference a week makes.  Asfordby had unbeaten Harborough on the back foot right from the start, creating chances and causing problems without being troubled at the back.  This was a good match between two sides who were playing attacking football, the first half finished goalless.

Within 10 mins of the restart Tyler Smith put the visitors 1-0 up and it should have been more, only the woodwork and fine keeping from the home keeper kept the score at 1-0. With 10 mins to go, Harborough pulled level with a shot from outside of the box.  This lifted the home side but good defending by the Amateurs denied them going in front. final score Harborough Town 1 Asfordby Amateurs 1.

Amateurs played league one outfit Hinckley United and were out played for most of the match.  Hinckley took the lead on 7 mins and by the 24 minute had conceded four more.  they steadied the ship a little and went in 5-0 down at the break. 

The second half was much better with the Amateurs taking the game to Hinckley but 3 goals in the last 10 mins finished the game off, the final score being Asfordby 0 Hinckley 8.

A much improved performance against Markfield, the Amateurs were unlucky not to bag all 3 pts as they really pushed the home side for the whole of the match. Tyler smith opened the scoring on 8 mins only for the home side to pull level on 25 mins. On 32 mins the home side were awarded a very dubious penalty by the home ref, keeper Dan Poyzer pulled off a fantastic save to keep it at 1-1. He could nothing about the second Markfield goal which was a top drawer free kick on 34 mins to give a half time score of 2-1 to the home side.

Asfordby came out strong in the second half and pulled level through Nick Harrison on 40 mines. Asfordby went in front on 55 mines through Dale Christian and looked to have won the game, but on 68 mines the home side sneaked an equaliser when Asfordby failed to get in a challenge and make the score 3-3.

A bright start from the Amateurs against high scoring second placed Enderby saw the home side go a head on 3 mins through Tyler Smith. On 12 mins the visitors were caught napping as Tyler Smith netted his second of the match to put the home side 2-0 up. Enderby pulled a goal back on 22 mins and levelled on 23 mins. The visitors went in on 34 mins to lead at the break 2-3.

The second half was a non event for the Amateurs as they succumbed to two more goals from the visitors on 40 and 45 mins. Overall it was poor second half showing as the visitors finished 2-5 winners.

An outstanding performance from the Amateurs from everyone involved. The 0-4 score line should have been a lot more as it was all one way as the Amateurs peppered the home sides goal in search of their first league win. Tyler Smith opened the scoring on 12 mins and he made it 2-0 on 18 mins. more chances were made but lacked a clinical finish.

The second half was a repeat of the first with a lot of chances going begging, Ryan Wright made it 3-0 on 45 mins and Tyler Smith finally bagged his first hat trick on 65 mins to finish the game off and give the Amateurs an emphatic 0-4 win.

Asfordby travelled to early league leaders Wigston, and were caught napping as the home side raced into a 2-0 lead, but to the Amateurs credit they steadied the ship and pulled a goal back before the break through Tyler Smith.

Twelve minutes into the second half Tyler Smith curled a 20 yard free kick into the top corner of the net to bring Amateurs level. Both teams were playing a good standard of football and were creating chances. The Amateurs were undone by two good strikes to make the final score 4-2 to the home side.

Not a bad overall display, with Asfordby playing most of the football and having Waltham under pressure for most of the game. Amateurs took the lead through Nick Harrison but were pegged back by the visitors just before the break.

Asfordby created a lot of chances in the second half but could not find the net. Waltham hit the winner with almost the last kick of the match to make the final score 1-2 to the visitors.

Despite the score line Asfordby did not disgrace themselves against higher league opponents Rothley in this League Cup encounter.  Asfordby took the lead through Tyler Smith, but the home side stepped up a gear to go 5-1 at half time. 

Asfordby re-shuffled the pack and had chances to pull themselves back into the game.  Dale Christian netted for the Amateurs and a late goal for the home side made it 6-2, but it was a much improved second half display.

Asfordby made the short trip to Thurmaston with the bare eleven for their first encounter against higher leagued opposition.  Although they put up a good performance they were no match for the magpies, who ran out 7-0 winners.

Asfordby went out of the league cup at the first hurdle against a very strong Barrow Town side, after conceding early goals they never got to grips with the home team, the only consolation was two second half strikes from a James Campbell penalty and a superb strike from Tyler Smith.

Asfordby`s tough start to the season continued with a county cup preliminary round fixture against league 1 side Aylestone Park.


Asfordby put in a very good display for the first 35 mins and were 2-0 down at the break, but the second half belonged the away side as the scored 8 more to go through to the next stages.

Asfordby`s first league match resulted in a fine home win against Birstall CC.  The home side were a little nervous to start but soon had the visitors on the back foot, after constant pressure the home side went 1-0 up when an Hartley corner was headed home by Alex Wright, scoring his first league goal for the club after 15 mins.  Within 2 mins of the restart Tyler Smith finished off a good move to put the home side 2-0 up.  It was now all Asfordby who were playing some really good football and it was no surprise when they went further ahead when Tyler Smith raced clear to hit a tremendous shot into the roof of the net to make it 3-0 at half time.


To give Birstall credit, they came out a little stronger for the second period and pulled a goal back within 10 mins of the restart.  Asfordby bought on Ryan Wright for his league debut and within minutes he raced away to score his first league goal for the club to make the score 4-1.


This lifted the home side who made further chances but couldn't find the killer touch until substitute Joe Ellis hit a tremendous half volley into the roof of the net from 18 yards for his first ever goal after a poor clearance by the visitors from a corner to give the final score Asfordby Amateurs 5  Birstall CC  1.

Asfordby played at Kirby Kings on Sunday, they started very brightly and had the home team defending for their lives with some good attacking football, but a missed chances proved costly as on 18 mins a mistake at the back let in the opposing forward to put the home side 1-0 up.
Asfordby lifted their game and again went at the home side, creating a couple of half chances in an effort to get on level terms, but were dealt a cruel blow as with half time approaching as an Asfordby attack broke down the home forward raced away and outpaced the visitors to go 2-0 up.
Within 7 mins of the restart Asfordby conceded two sloppy goals and a fifth game 10 mins later.  Asfordby regained a little composure and were now taking the game to the home side, who defended strongly to keep a clean sheet.  The visitors then lost keeper Davies to injury, he was replaced by Poyzer between the sticks who was beaten with the last kick of the match to make the final score 6-0

Asfordby went down 5-3 away at Woodgate on Sunday in a match where they deserved to get something out of it.
 
Asfordby kicked off and immediately put the home side under pressure with Poyzer having a shot cleared off the line.
 
After an even start the home side went ahead on 15 mins, and within 5 mins had doubled their lead.  Asfordby kept plugging away but couldn't find the net as the half finished 2-0 to the home side.
 
Asfordby started the second half strongly and pulled a goal back when Ryan Wright scored with a great shot from just outside the box.  Asfordby were then dealt a double blow when Matt Wright put the ball in the net only for the linesman to flag for "offside" and from the restart the home side went further ahead when keeper Davies had the ball bungled out of his hands for their forward to roll the ball into the net, despite the appeals for a foul the "ref" gave the goal.
 
Asfordby pulled another goal back when again Ryan Wright found the net from just inside the box.  Almost immediately Woodgate scored again when a clearance cannoned back off of one of their players and looped into the net.
 
Asfordby again pushed forward and were rewarded with a goal from Matt Wright when he went passed two defenders before scoring, it was now all Asfordby and they were pulling out all the stops to get level, but a mistake at the back let in the home side to score the fifth and final goal of the game.

Asfordby kept a clean sheet for the first time this season against Markfield in a game that they should have won.  Asfordby kicked off and immediately had the visitors on the back foot.  Chances were being made but unfortunately the home side were not clinical in front of goal and the chances went begging.  It was almost one way pressure, but stout defending and good keeping by the visitors keeper kept the score line blank.

The second half continued as the first had ended with Amateurs pressing forward and Markfield relying on the quick break.  The visitors had a couple of half chances but the home side enjoyed the better of the play without scoring.

Goscote 2  V  Asfordby Amateurs 4
 
Asfordby picked up their second win of the season away to local rivals Goscote. Asfordby were forced to make changes to the team that drew the previous week with Dan Poyzer taking over between the sticks from the injured Davies, and others playing out of position.
 
Goscote kicked off and pushed the visitors back but they were held at bay the amateurs back four.  Poyzer produced a fine save to tip the ball away for a corner, as the game went on Asfordby started to play some nice and neat passing football.  On 25 mins Tyler Smith opened the scoring to put the visitors 1-0 up.  On 30 mins Will Hartley raced away to make it 2-0.  Within the next 5 mins Asfordby scored twice again through Ryan Wright and a second for Tyler Smith to go in 4-0 up at the break.
 
In the second half the amateurs couldn't re-produce the quality of the first, but they did create a couple of chances.  Goscote came a little more into it and pulled two goals back but found it hard to break down the visitors with every player on the park working hard for the team.  Final score Goscote 2 V Asfordby 4
