Kegworth Imps 1 v Asfordby Amateurs 8
This was Asfordby’s biggest win so far but they were caught napping from the kick-off when Kegworth took the lad after two minutes. Asfordby soon settled and started playing some quality passing football and it was Tilley who levelled the score with a fine twenty yard strike. Martin also netted twice to give Asfordby a three-1 lead at the interval.
Kegworth pressured at the start of the second half, keeper Naylor and defenders Lennon, Power, Walker and Hall halted any attack the hosts made. Upton and Gillespie worked down the flanks well and it was a superb run by Gillespie who beat three men to make it 4-1 to Asfordby.
Warrington also got on the score sheet with a fine goal to make it 5-1. Gillespie netted his second to make it 6-1. Martin added another for his hat-trick and Slack finished off the scoring with a fine solo effort to give Asfordby a comfortable eight-1 win. Sam Gillespie and Ellis Walker were named joint man-of-the match.

|
Asfordby Amateurs 4 v Houghton Rangers 4
Asfordby pressured from the start in this game and it wasn’t long before Young had given the hosts the lead. Good passing football kept Houghton on the back foot giving Warrington the chance to extend Asfordby’s lead with a well taken goal. Young picked up a loose ball to net his second and give Asfordby a three goal lead. Houghton were awarded a penalty which they converted to make it 3-1 at the interval.
The tables turned in the second half, Houghton played the better football and had soon levelled the score with two quick goals. Constant pressure caused Asfordby to make mistakes and this led to Houghton taking the lead, but this was short-lived when Young again left the visitor’s defence standing to net his hat-trick and level the score.
Warrington was awarded man-of-the match for Asfordby.

Asfordby Amateurs 4 v Kingsway Rangers 1
Asfordby completed their second win over Kingsway in as many weekends. Both teams started well but the breakthrough came for Asfordby midway through the half when Brown threaded a pass through the Rangers defence for Young to open the scoring. Solid defending from Walker, Power and fine saves from keeper Naylor maintained Asfordby’s lead at half-time.
Asfordby soon took control of the second half with Tilly, Martin and Warrington pressuring the Kingsway defence and it was from a corner that Power headed home from close range for a two goal lead. Martin’s through ball set up Young to net Asfordby’s third before Rangers pulled one back.
Rangers again had no answer to Young’s pace as he completed his hat-trick and sealed another win. Walker, Power, Naylor and Young were all awarded man-of-the match.

Highfield Rangers 4 v Asfordby Amateurs 1
Asfordby rested key players for this game and despite the scoreline played some outstanding football against Division one high flyers Highfield. With a strong wind against them Asfordby opened the scoring when Warrington collected a loose ball and lobbed the keeper. As expected Rangers pressed hard and soon levelled thescore. Good defending from Lennon, Truman, Lambert and Hall and some outstanding one-on-one saves from keeper Naylor could not stop Rangers from scoring three more goals before the interval.
Asfordby began the second half well with Tilly and Cubbitt working hard in midfield and making the use of the wind behind him Naylor’s long kicks over Highfield’s defence gave Martin, Darlington and Gillespie chances but they shot wide. The few chances Rangers had were either cleared by Lambert and Lennon or stopped by Naylor. Lambert and Naylor were both given man-of-the match.

Asfordby Amateurs 2 v Barwell Athletic 5
This was another hard game for Asfordby against second placed Barwell who were a goal up inside a minute. This caused Asfordby to panic and Barwell took advantage of this and soon netted a second. Asfordby realised they had a game on and soon settled and it wasn’t long before Young was on the score sheet to make it 2-1. Keeper was called on to make some good saves before Barwell scored their third, again Asfordby replied with a fine goal from Darlington. Barwell then scored from a corent to make it 4-2 at the interval.

Twenty minutes into the game the visitors were 3-0 up through Martin (2) and Young. Chris Hall also got on the score sheet with a fine goal to make it 4-0. Kirby pulled a goal back from a free kick and Young got his second on half time to give Asfordby a 5-1 lead.
Kirby started the second half strongly. Only good defending from Reed, Power, Walker and Warrington and some good saves from keeper Naylor kept Kirby out. Darlington, Tilly and man-of-the match Upton worked hard. Kirby’s constant pressure was rewarded when they scored their second from a corner. Young finished off the scoring with a fine solo effort for his hat-trick.

Asfordby Amateurs U15s 3 v Stoke Golding 2
Chairman’s League Cup Pre-Preliminary Round.
Asfordby had a brilliant season last year being crowned champions of their league and got off to a good start again this season.
Asfordby and Stoke Golding both played evenly for a start but Asfordby soon found their scoring boots with Ryan Young scoring the first goal. Stoke Golding equalised but with Asfordby’s midfield and defence playing really well keeper Craig Naylor had few saves to make.
Ryan Martin and Ryan Young each scored a goal to make it 3-1 up and into the comfort zone. However, with minutes left Stoke Golding narrowed the gap to a single goal. Asfordby continued their good style of play and closed the door firmly to Stoke Golding equalising again.

- 7 Sep v Leics Nivana
 |
 |
|
Leicester Nirvana 4 – 4 Asfordby Amateurs aet – Amateurs win 3- 2 on penalties
For the first ten minutes play was even before a shot from Young finds the back of the net to give the visiting side an early lead. Asfordby were dominating play with good passing ability. Martin takes his chance and scores a second for the Amateurs, straight after Asfordby continue to pressurise when Young side steps the keeper and places it into an empty net just before half time.
Plenty of chances from both sides continue but with no effect, until a penalty decision gives the hosts their first. Straight after Nirvana score a second and sloppy defending allows the hosts to equalise and force extra-time.
Straight from kick-off Martin scores within the first few seconds but Nirvana retaliate and score an equaliser, play was even from then on and was forced into penalties.
Asfordby won 3 – 2 in penalties (Jed Wright, Ryan Martin & Ryan Young successful)

 |
|
Asfordby Amateurs 6 v Countesthorpe Athletic 2
Asfordby get off to a good start in their first league game of the season with a fine win over Countesthorpe. Good controlling play from Asfordby sees Martin free to score their first. Lamberts corner then falls to Martin who blasts home a second. Asfordby pile on the pressure with great one touch football from Adams, Young and Tilley, which gives Martin room to claim his hat trick. Walker makes a fifty yard lone run to fire in Asfordby’s fourth.
Countesthorpe started stronger in the second half and broke free to score, Tilley switches the ball over to Adams on the left wing who plays it through the defence for Martin to run on a bury his fourth. Walker and Tilley dominated the midfield as a ball laid on to Wright is stuck from twenty yards into the top right corner. A great strike from the visitors is fired in just before the final whistle.

|
Asfordby Amateurs 3 v Bardon Hill Sports 2 A depleted Asfordby side came out on top. Naylor makes an early save to stop the visitors taking the lead. Five minutes after Young scores with a brilliant lob straight over the keeper. Good defending from Hall, Wright, Power and Lennon stopped Naylor from making a save. Bardon keeper’s fine save denies Young his second, Lamberts cross finds Adams who slots in Asfordby’s second midway through the half and a mistake by the visitors sees Young free to shoot and score.
A lapse in defence lets Bardon score a first, Adams through balls got Asfordby in a domineering position but with no luck, good passing play from Upton and Brown gave Warrington chances but was unable to capitalize. With five minutes remaining Bardon score a second.

|
Asfordby Amateurs 4 v Enderby Foxes 0
Division leaders Enderby Foxes had no answer to an Asfordby side that produced some good quality football. Keeper Naylor was called upon early on to make a good save and from this a long ball was picked up by Young who turned and slotted the ball home for Asfordby’s first.
Strong defending from Lennon, Power, Walker and Wright and good supporting play from Tilley gave Upton the chance to score Asfordby’s second with a 20 yard net buster! Young then pounced on the Enderby keeper’s mistake to get his second and give Asfordby a three nil lead at the break.
In the second half, Enderby still couldn’t find a way through Asfordby’s defence. Adams and Warrington stretched the Enderby defence and many chances went begging. Eventually Martin picked up a good ball from Young pushed it past his marker and under the keeper to make it 4-0.
This result was a convincing win for Asfordby and keeps them well in the promotion hunt with 3 games in hand on Enderby.
Man-of-the Match was awarded jointly to Charlie Lennon and Jack Upton.

- 22 Feb v Loughborough (A)
|
Loughborough Dynamo 3 v Asfordby Amateurs 5
The wind was behind Asfordby in the first half and they made good use of this with long balls over the Loughborough defence. After twenty minutes Wright had netted three times. Power got on the scoresheet when he headed a corner from close range. Keeper Naylor pulled off a string of fine saves to give Asfordby a four-nil lead at the interval.
The second half started well with Gillespie scoring to make it five nil. But Loughborough with the wind behind them pressured hard and were gifted with three quick goals and it was only good strong defending from Lennon, Power, reed and man-of-the match Cubbitt which kept Loughborough out and secure both points.
Asfordby : Naylor (Captain), Cubbitt, Lennon, Power, Reed, Warrington, Hall, Upton, Gillespie, Walker, Wright, Brown, Lambert, Tilly.

 |
|
Wigston United 2 v Asfordby Amateurs U15s 3
Wigston started the game with the wind behind them and using the long ball soon had Asfordby on the back foot. Constant pressure resulted in two goals and only strong defending from Hall, Power, Reed and, man-of-the match, Lennon and good keeping by Naylor kept the score down to 2-0 at the interval.
Asfordby re-organised for the second half. Tilly and Upton started to control the midfield. Wingmen Gilliespie and Lambert used the touchlines well. This stretched the home defence and a long ball by Naylor over the Wigston defence was picked up by Walker who netted from close range. Asfordby still pressed hard and a defensive mistake by Wigston was slotted home by sub Brown to make it 2-2.
Asfordby now started to play good passing football and many chances were missed. With about 10 minutes to go another route one ball over the Wigston defence was picked up by Wright who pushed it past the keeper to give Asfordby the points from a well contested game.
Asfordby : Naylor (Captain), Hall, Lennon, Power, Reed, Lambert, Tilly, Upton, Gilliespie, Walker, Wright, Brown, Truman

|
Countesthorpe 2 v Asfordby Amateurs U15s 5
Asfordby struggled at the start of this game with a strong wind against them and a determined Countesthorpe side. Defenders Truman, Lennon, Power and Reed were constantly pressured by long balls and keeper Naylor was called on to make some fine saves. Midway through the half, Asfordby made the breakthrough when Wright netted but Countesthorpe came back strongly and were gifted with two soft goals before the break.
Asfordby started the second half more positively with Walker scoring to bring the game level. Wright scored again to make it 3-2. Upton picked up a bad clearance to score the fourth and a massive kick from Naylor over the Countesthorpe defence was picked up by Wright who netted his hat-trick making the final score 5-2 in Asfordby’s favour.
Man of the match was awarded to Jed Wright for his hat-trick and Mark Reed for his good defending.
Asfordby : Naylor (Captain), Truman, Lennon, Power, Reed, Brown, Upton, Hall, Gillespie, Walker, Wright, Lambert, Warrington.

- 15 Mar v Mowbray (H)
|
Asfordby Amateurs U15s 2 v Mowbray Rangers U14s 3
Asfordby took the game to Mowbray in this local derby. Walker was the main threat for Asfordby with his darting runs putting the Mowbray defence on the back foot many times. All the chances made by Asfordby were wasted. The few chances Mowbray had were either picked up by keeper and captain Naylor or cleared by defenders Lambert, Lennon, Power and Gillespie. Constant pressure caused Mowbray to push the ball into their own net to give Asfordby a one-nil lead. This score was to remain up to the break.
Mowbray started the second half playing the better football with the defence strong and the Mowbray midfield winning most of the balls. It wasn’t long before they equalised. Asfordby had more chances to score but couldn’t find the net. Strong pressure from Mowbray resulted in two more well taken goals. Wright scored for Asfordby with minutes to go to make it two-three but time ran out and neighbours Mowbray took the points. Man-of-the match for Asfordby was awarded to Ellis Walker and Jarred Power.
Asfordby : C Naylor (captain), P Lambert, C Lennon, J Power, S Gillespie, M Reed, C Hall, R Tilly, Z Warrington, J Wright, E Walker, J Truman, J Brown

- 22 Mar v Dunton (H)
|
Asfordby Amateurs U15s 3 v Dunton & Broughton 1
Asfordby chose to play against the wind in the first half and Dunton’s route one play kept keeper Naylor and defenders Truman, Lennon, Power and Gillespie buzy. Dunton’s pressure paid off with a goal midway through the first half.
Asfordby began the second half stronger Upton and Hall’s control of midfield and good support play from Walker gave Wright the chance to score the equaliser. Wingers Brown and Warrington pressured the Dunton defence forcing corners and from one of these Lambert scored direct to put Asfordby ahead. Dunton pressured again pushing everyone forward but the Asfordby defence was not giving in and it was man-of-the match Walker who passed a great ball to Wright who pushed it past the Dunton keeper to give Asfordby a good three one win.
Asfordby : C Naylor (Captain), D Truman, C Lennon, J Power, S Gillespie, J Brown, J Upton, C Hall, Z Warrington, E Walker, J Wright, P Lambert
