    East Goscote Tournament – 8th August 2010

The newly formed under 7’s played their first match together in a tough tournament against very worthy opponents. With no previous match experience and limited players Asfordby could only hope for the best, as the odds were stacked against them.

With a tough match against the hosts East Goscote as the opening game, it wasn’t the best start for the team, despite some great defending and determination from Lewis Duncan in defence there was little chance of them stopping a quality East Goscote side and eventually lost 4-0.

Asfordby proved resilient and as the matches progressed began to gel together, with some encouraging attacking runs from Zak Deacon and Alan Chrzan. Continued effort from Luke Nicholls and Jason Halliday drove the team forward to help them gain a couple of draws from the remaining matches. Will Halliday’s brilliant saves thoughout the tournament as stand in goalkeeper stopped the other teams snatching more than the 1 point that Asfordby worked hard for and deserved.

Playing with only the bare 7 and several players playing out of their usual position, this young and promising Asfordby team exceeded all expectations by losing 2 and drawing 3 in their first 5 games together. Tom Carr showed excellent strength and slotted away 3 nice goals, bringing him to the attention of the Nottingham Forest scout. Coach Craig Naylor was proud of the boys commitment and looks forward to a action packed new season.
